Advantages: cinematography, billy bob thornton Disadvantages: slow, some unbelievable moments
...Mitchell (Bill Paxton) works at a Mill in a small Midwest town and Winter has fully settled in when he visits his parent's grave with his brother, Jacob (Billy-Bob Thornton) and Lou (Brent Briscoe) who is a friend of Jacobs. On the way back home a fox (Which looks in a lot better condition than any fox you will see in the UK) runs out in front of the truck and they have a minor accident. Both Jacob and Lou set off to get the fox and Hank tags along ... ...they discover a crash site; a small plane is covered with snow, its pilot dead at the controls. After making their way inside they find a bag with money in it, lots of money, $4.4 million in fact.
Morally correct Hank wants to hand the money in and collect any reward, if there is one. Lou and Jacob whom are both out of work see this as retirement and want to keep the money. "You work for the American Dream, you don't steal it." Exclaims Hank, although ...

Advantages: Brilliant performances, great twists, perfectly executed in every way Disadvantages: The title isn't catchy enough
...was critically acclaimed but not a big money-maker. It's title isn't very catchy, there were no huge stars in it, it was made by a director famous for schlock horror films like the Evil Dead trilogy and it was released around the same time as The Mask Of Zorro. Which film would you rather see?
Yet now that it is on DVD it has begun to gain a following, perhaps not as big as The Shawshank Redemption but still enough to sell a lot of copies and give ... ...never leave you and is a movie that regularly crops up during conversations.
The story itself is simple: Three friends (two of them brothers) find money in a plane crash and decide to hide it instead of give it to the local authorities. Things get worse when they find that the money belongs to the mob.
This whole film is in fact a morality tale but told in such a brilliant way (convoluted but easy to follow) that it goes into a class of its own.

Advantages: Grest conclusion to fantastic series, good extras Disadvantages: only two episodes, the end of an era :-(
...to the Christmas party with him. What’s initially striking about these two episodes is how poignant, almost painful they are to watch. As with the first two series, the success lies in the fact that there is some real, emotional drama going on as well as some great comedy. You can’t help but want a happy ending for Brent and for Dawn and Tim, and there’s no guarantee that you will get one. There is absolutely no inevitability about what will happen and you are kept on the edge of your seat until the final concluding moments.
The script is as accomplished as it was in the first two series, full of one-liners, amusing appeals to camera and repetitive shots of the same, office scenes, which make the most of the fly-on-the-wall effect. Some of the most effective scenes are those of simple silence!
So why buy the DVD? I bought it mainly for the extra...

Genre: Action & Adventure
Classification: 18 years and over
Production Year: 1998
Running Time: 1 hour 57 minutes
Video Category: Feature Film
Plot: Sam Raimi breaks out of genre films with this tight, effective thriller. When two brothers, Hank (Bill Paxton) and Jacob (Billy Bob Thornton), and their friend Lou (Brent Briscoe), find 4.4 million dollars inside a crashed plane, they believe they've found the financial answer to all their problems. All they have to do is keep it a secret until the plane is discovered and any investigations are completed. This proves to be easier said than done, however, when the three men (as well as Hank's wife, Sarah, played by Bridget Fonda), each with their different reasons, begin to lose trust in the others. When an FBI agent comes to town, the tension becomes explosive resulting in deceit and, ultimately, murder. Raimi makes brilliant use of icy Minnesota locales. Thornton's performance was recognised by the Academy with a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The script, by Scott B. Smith from his own novel, was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.
