Advantages: eh...I got it in a box with better movies Disadvantages: It stinks
...Street proved to be such a huge success the world over, New Line Cinema naturally decided to get to work on a sequel. While I can't say if the jobs were offered to them, neither Wes Craven, the director of the original, or Heather Langenkamp, the star return. The movie was sub-titled 'Freddy's Revenge', which is something I always found fairly amusing, seeing as Freddy isn't actually taking revenge on anyone in this flick. The movie follows Jesse ... ...has been suffering Nightmares about a mysterious scarred man with knives for fingers who is constantly down in his boiler room, he quickly makes an enemy in the form of the school coach (Marshall Bell - Total Recall), and his relationship with his father (Clu Gulager - Uninvited) isnt going too well either. On the plus side, after some initial hostilities, he befriends school bad-boy come sport star Ron Grady (Robert Rusler - Weird Science) and school ...

Advantages: Freddy, some scares Disadvantages: It is a sequel
...five years after the original, A Nightmare On Elm Street Part Two: Freddy's Revenge was the first in a long line of sequels. The film sees teenager Jesse Walsh and his family moving into the infamous 1428 Elm Street. Jesse is assigned Nancy's old room and soon begins to have nightmares which pave the way for Freddy's return. Wes Craven has nothing to do with this production and it shows. The film lacks the originality of part one, though it is at ... ...a genuine attempt to scare. Direction is from Jack Sholder and it was produced by Robert Shaye. Jesse is played by Mark Patton but the cast is a list of unknowns otherwise apart, of course, from Freddy, who is always played by Robert Englund.
Jesse finds out that his dreams are not isolated as a school friend tells him about the history of the house he is living in. The father has purchased it on the cheap without telling his family about the trouble. ...

Advantages: Genuinely scary, above average acting, good directing, gory. Disadvantages: The idea isn't original anymore, lackluster ending.
...an idiot I am with a review in favor of the much disliked sequel to the classic "A Nightmare On Elm Street." What really perturbs me is that not many sequels are given much of a chance. Perhaps it’s because the original films are so good that in our minds nothing can top them. Maybe it's because we refuse to admit anybody besides the acclaimed director of said masterpiece can create something as good. That's not the case here, however, as Wes Craven's ... ...second installment is often considered a cinematic piece of crap. It's beyond me as to why most feel this way as I found it to be an eerie, surprisingly good film that went beyond what I expected from it. It may not be a classic but that's not to say it's better than most of the sequels that came after it.
New kid Jesse (Mark Patton) and his family move into the house on Elm Street that said "insane" Nancy from the first film used to live in. Strange ...

...the release of Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, a movie which came along just at the right time to save the horror genre from complete ghettoism after film directors latched onto the ideas expressed in John Carpenter’s Halloween series and churned out nothing else year in year out that cheap imitation of it. True, A Nightmare on Elm street was effectively another slasher movie, but this time one which exhibited more than a little ... ...a certain 'Freddy Kruegar' who went on the haunt the 80s and early 90s in a series of hit and miss sequels and to gain something of a celebrity status himself. Freddy was a childkiller who used to prey on his victims in their sleep, notoriously wearing a dirty red and black stripped sweater, battered green floppy hat and a leather glove with razorblade fingernails. The local residents turned vigilante and burned him alive in his own house when they ...

Better in hindsight Review ofA Nightmare On Elm Street 2 - Freddy's Revenge DVDby

Advantages: Good set-pieces, scary, chilling, Freddy has not yet become a joke. Disadvantages: Doesn't elaborate much on the original - difficult to care about the characters - and another tacky shock ending.
...of his new home. Suddenly a number of mysterious incidents occur and Jjessie starts to question his own innocence - it seems Freddy is taking over his body. Fredddy kills Jessie's best friend Ron and then attacks Jessie's friend at a pool part. Jessie's girlfriend Lisa confronts Freddy and eventually persuades Jessie to break free causing Freddy's supposed demise. The film ends with Freddy making another attack on one of Jessie's friends. The nightmare ... ...say. Admittedly the story is a little poor and characterisation is virtually non-existent but it doesn't ultimately matter, and compared to some of the other sequels this film is a masterpiece. I don't whether it's because this was the first Elm Street movie I saw back when I was a wee lad but this film has many memorable, particularly chilling set-pieces. Who can forget the ride to hell at the beginning of the movie, the death of the coach, the ...

Review: "...Clever special effects, a good leading performance and a villain so chatty he practically makes this a human-interest story....Scary, but not without touches of humor..." (New York Times, p.C10, 01/11/1985)
"...Well-made....An imaginative series of special effects....Reprising his monster role, Robert Englund is a frightening addition to the horror pantheon..." (Variety, 30/10/1985)
