Will Ferrell are Doug and Steve Butabi, the wearers of the rayon suits and Speedo trunks who bob their heads in unison to dance music while unsuccessfully preying on women in clubs. What's funny in a three-minute piece doesn't always get funnier by expansion, but Kattan and Ferrell give it a go with fellow SNL member Molly Shannon as their ambitious neighbour. By day they work in their father's fake-plant store. By night they prowl the club scene after spraying on the cologne in their gauchely decorated bedroom. A fender-bender with Richard Grieco (playing himself) gets them into the popular club the Roxbury, but it's not all good news, as the brothers soon find themselves torn apart. Doug and Steve are pathetic but lovable, mostly due to the actors' talents for self-deprecating humour. All gifted comedians, Kattan, Ferrell, and Shannon obviously feel comfortable around each other, and their love triangle (which prompts send-ups ofSay AnythingandJerry Maguire) is the funniest joke in this mostly lame comedy. Too bad, because it clocks in at about 80 minutes and could have run on television as a pretty good episode of SNL, which has been known to get a bit lame itself. --Shannon Gee

The Butabi brothers, Steve (will ferrel-zoolander) and Doug(chris kattan-monkeybone) are a pair of club hopping nutters who never have any luck with the ladies and seriously annoy their fake plant store owning father (Dan Hedaya-shaft,nixon). The two brothers are a mix between the guys from dumb and dumber and john travolta in saturday night live.
Every night they go to various clubs and do their little dances ( mostly consisting of simply bobbing their heads from side to side or flinging themselves at hot ladies ) but the one club they can't get into is the roxbury, the hottest club in town (bouncered by michael-clarke-duncan ) . The brothers dream of opening their own nightclub but how are they going to open a cool club when they can't even get into a cool club. However, one night when they are accidently crashed into by Richard Grieco (playing himself) he (eager to avoid being sued) gets them into the club. There they meet the owner mr zadir ( played brilliantly by chazz palminteri- the usual suspects ) and are pulled into the world that they dreamed of.
This film is an absolute scream, all of the characters are caricatures so it really shouldn't be taken too seriously. The club owner mr zadir is a big man who constantly asks people if 'they touched his ass'. Steve is constantly harrassed by the neighbours daughter ( molly shannon ) and is eventually bullied into getting engaged, an idea that delights his father who wants to combine shops with her father. Doug is constantly phoning up an operator at the credit company because he likes her voice.
The soundtrack is absolute cheese, this being set sometime in the nineties and revolving around disco pop, there is one main theme 'what is love'. I can't remember who it is by but it brings back really strange memories. The film also parodies some famous films from say anything to jerry maguire.
There are so many quotable moments in the film, the brothers tell everyone they meet about the time they saw emilio estevez in hilarious fashion and a trip along the beach in the tightest swimming trunks ever is also a laugh out loud moment. The plot is hackneyed and some of the acting by the support cast is weak but this film is about laughs. And of course at the end everything is rosy for the boys.
I currently have this on video ( it comes in a nice shiny glittery box that looks good on the shelf ) which cost be about £3 but i would buy it on dvd just because it is a cult classic it is certificate 15 and 78 minutes long. Get drunk watch this film and laugh till your sides hurt. Then get drunk again and have fun quoting it and making each other laugh till beer comes out of your noses.
Advantages: Makes you dance. Disadvantages: Not the best story line.
...movie, mostly because i am a fan of SNL, and especially this sketch. The one thing i have to say is this movie has given me soooo many pick up lines, and they are all hilarious. Other than that, the music was good, and it had a lot of stars in it. This is a great movie to get you in a good mood, and to get you to want to go clubbing. And as for the bad parts, it wasn't written all that well, but there wasn't much of a plot to deal with. Also there ...

...this may have simply been a knee-jerk reaction from the need to find something, anything to laugh at in the midst of this horrible flick. As it turns out, one of these "funny moments" was lifted from Say Anything (I have been told). I think Will Farrell is (usually) fantastic and his was the only line delivered that made me guffaw. Overall, the performances weren't even phoned in, they were delivered bulk rate. Don't get me wrong, I love stupid, ...

...tv - after working in a nightclub! It took the following two weeks tracking down a copy - but well worth it
ANYONE who ever worked in a club has probably met male bimbos like the butabi brothers - aimless rich twenty-somethings who dream of owning a club of their own one day - mainly because the Roxbury in the title is the coolest in town but wont let them in!
They divide their time between the usual places - the gymn , the beach , clubbing and ... ...each.
The wardrobe deserves a special mention-the thong beachwear
for starters and the transparent tops that are normally reserved for male podium dancers!Where they found those shiny suits I dont even want to know.... you get the idea?
Never thought I'd hear euro artist Haddaway played as lift music
and the head jerk man-stood-at-the-bar dancing is superb.....
The humour is rife with stuff that suggests that the writers had more than a passing ...

...Boutabi is that they are a trendy version of Beavis & Butthead, but with actors rather that cartoons. The plot follows this hapless duo with their quest to get into the top club in their town, The Roxbury, and their plans to open a club - and more importantly 'score with the chicks'. It is a funny film, ideal for a night where you want to laugh and not bother to switch on your mind ...

...their dads florist! They have a dream of owning their own nightclub. A special club. An outdoor indoor club! They have no money to accomplish this, so they think if they can get in with the big boys, and sell their idea to them, they will get help.
One problem, the big boys are in the Roxbury, and no matter how hard they try, they are never allowed in (names not on the list).
The part with the "time to get ready for clubbing" scene is the funniest ... ...the spraypainted sideburns applied with a template and ofcourse not forgetting the deodorising of the genitals!! Will have you rolling around on the floor laughing!
So, by chance, they are driving their van one night, and guess who bumps into the back of them. Yeah, its Richard Grieco. To save all the hassles of insurance, Richard asks them what they want to do!
They ask him to get them into the Roxbury, which he does and they are over the moon.
