Advantages: Spellbinding, exhilirating, comedic, dramatic. First class performances throughout. Disadvantages: The denouement is slightly laboured and could have been a little shorter.
...This truly is the Spectacular, Spectacular of the year. From the very start of the film the viewer is taken on a sumptious journey of musical melodrama, which will leave you spell bound and breatheless. Set in Paris in 1900 the film takes advantage of contemporary music and sets the songs against the background of the Moulin Rouge. Nicole Kidman and Euan McGregor are outstanding as the leading protagonists, and lend comedy talent to remarkably good singing performances. The sets are truly magnificent, as are the costumes, and the film may easily go on to scoop a plethora of awards at next year's Oscar ceremony. The production is of the highest quality, and one can only be in awe of the people that had the imagination to put the film together in the first place. The comedy pieces are superbly choreographed and extremely funny...

...Another great MGM musical, directed by Vincent Minnelli.

He is struggling financially and selling his art on the street when a rich lady stops to buy his paintings and becomes somewhat of a sponsor to him. She has ideas of romance with him, but while out for a drink with her, he has an episode of love at first sight with another girl (played by Leslie Carron).
I don't want to give the ending away, but the film comes to a delightful conclusion after an excellent...
