Isn't it funny how when you are in the peak of one of your reviewing moods you seem to be able to sit down and review anything, in fact you may look out especially for things and see them as something you can review rather than something you might actually enjoy. Let me break it down a bit for you, perhaps its how when men go out in town they'll see women as numbers, usually on a scale of one to ten, and if I'm trying to give an example to the simple women readers amongst us.. well, I'm out of examples. Sorry. You see A Lot Like Love is a film I caught on television especially for the fact I know there's going to be someone out there interested in it, or either that or they'll just be interested in Ashton Kutcher who takes the starring role as Oliver Martin.
Being thrown into this movie you see Olly being dropped off by his sister and her friends at the airport where he is about to take a trip to New York (from LA) to see his deaf brother Graham (Tyrone Giordano). His brother has intentions of being a lawyer, and that in itself is worthy of a spinoff film but I guess that doesn't come under the title of romantic comedy. The film is full of extra characters you most likely won't take to, and that includes the boyfriend of Olly's love interest of the film. Olly sees Emily Friehl (Amanda Peet) arguing with her boyfriend, who just comes to be known as 'Bon Jovi', at the airport and after a few glances across the airport you feel Emily is a bit too cool for Olly. Well, that all changes in the airport toilet. Strangely the twos travel round New York means they bump into one another, and whilst Emily is reluctant to start anything it ends with Emily getting Olly's number and being told to ring him in six years time to see what he has become.
You know this film is going to flash forward, but strangely for starters it only flash forwards three years...
New Years Eve and having just broken up with her boyfriend, Emily does not have a date. She does have Olly's number though. This leads to her calling up Olly to see what he's doing to bring in the new year, and that is the story of this film really. A few misadventures spread over an hour and a half movie. Oh, and thankfully time has been good to the pair of them as they look so much better than they did at the start of the movie. And here I was thinking the whole movie might be Ashton Kutcher playing a teenager again. Everyone knows what is going to happen at the end of the movie really, and it appears time cannot break this feeling that is.. of course.. a lot like love between the pair. One thing I couldn't get through this review without mentioning is how Ali Larter stars as one of Emily's friends, Gina. Ali Larter famed now for her role in Heroes, seeing her in anything worse is a bit of a shock. She is hot though, and it's a shame she wasn't selected for the main role.
What does this 2005 outing give us that no other romantic comedy has given us before then? Nothing quite simply. Within the first ten minutes I was already contemplating turning it off and reviewing something else, although my mum did want to see how it turned out. Not the worst movie I have ever seen but it is not something I plan on watching again. Jokes like a diaper salesman just don't cut it with me.
Advantages: Excellent chemistry between the two leading actors Disadvantages: Rather generic with predictable ending
...Emily (Amanda Peet) meet on a flight from LA to New York, and they have sex in the plane toilets. They spend the day together in New York, and decide that they are not well-suited. Oliver tells Emily about his career plans and how he will settle down with a girl once his career has taken off. Emily is not convinced that he'll be able to find a girl to fall in love with him. Oliver gives her the phone number of his parents' house and tells her to ... ...communicate using silly gestures in a quiet restaurant! The plot is quite realistic and makes you smile without many soppy parts. Reminds me of 'When Harry Met Sally'. The film is pretty mild and subtle though, and could result in some snoozing... The DVD itself has some good special features, such as deleted scenes which are always good! ...

...two people who meet on a flight to New York. They soend some time toegther in New York but after that, do not talk to each other for a number of years. They get back in contact and bring in the new year together, but due to prior commitments, they are unable to spend more time together, and therefore go a few more years without talking to each other. They get in contact after that, but it is still on/off, until they realise that all they really want ... ...gets in the way.
A movie to watch if you want to see Ashton Kutcher singing and playing the guitar. I really enjoyed this movie. The first time i watched it, I was disappointed, I didn't find it to be as good as it was made out to be, but after I'd seen it, I wanted to watch it again, so I did, and after that I began to enjoy watching it. It is funny, and Kutcher and Peet do have chemistry. I did find it to be unrealistic but if you don't pay too ...

Advantages: Easy to fit it around a busy life Disadvantages: Probably not for beginners
I have bought a good many exercise videos and DVD's in my time, many of which have been used a few times before I've grown bored of them and they have ended up gathering dust somewhere. However, I have had this DVD a few months now and I think it's fantastic! If like me you have a busy life style and need to fit a lot into your day, then this DVD is perfect.
I really love the fact that it is broken down into manageable bit size sections. There are 5 sections in total each lasting 10 minutes.
The sections are:
1 Pilates for abs
2 Pilates for buns and thighs
3 Sculpting Pilates
4 Pilates Burn
5 Pilates for flexibility
The Pro's:
- Obviously you can chose how long you want to work out for. When you're pushed for time, you can just do a 10 minute section and you still feel like you have at least done ...
Advantages: Cheaper than buying individually and nice box Disadvantages: You may end up with a child glued to TV
My 2 year old daughter loves Peppa Pig and has a lot of the toys available. It was therefore no surprise that she also wanted the DVD's.
All of the episodes have been on TV, however likelots of us grown up she loves owning DVD.'s . Watching her favourite episodes again and again.
This set comprises of the first 3 volumes of the Peppa Pig series being titled Flying a Kite and other stories, New Shoes and other stories and Muddy Puddles and other stories. She knows all the titles and can even quote line for line some of the episodes!
We purchased it from Argos at £12.99. Although I am not sure whether they still sell it , I am sure you can buy for a similar price elsewhere. This works out at just over £4.00 each DVD and is great value for money, especially as my daughter watches them loads.
It comes in a nice box set ,although ...

From British director Nigel Cole, whose sweet-hearted comedies CALENDAR GIRLS and SAVING GRACE shared a similar combination of humour and true emotion, A LOT LIKE LOVE is the story of two friends who seem destined to love each other if they can ever realise that themselves. Meeting on a flight from Los Angeles to New York, naive Oliver (Ashton Kutcher) and tough Emily (Amanda Peet) have sex in an airplane lavatory before learning each other's names. Despite this intimate introduction, Emily is uninterested in getting to know the guy she just picked up, telling Oliver frankly that he's not her type. The two part ways, but end up running into each other hours later in what proves to be just the first of many semi-coincidental romantic encounters. After spending a fun day together in the city, Oliver gives Emily his home number and tells her to call him in 6 years, once he's gotten his life and career figured out. When an unforeseen break-up leaves Emily dateless for New Year's Eve a few years later, she calls Oliver and they meet again. In the years that have passed since their first meeting, Emily has taken up acting, Oliver has started an online diaper-selling business, and both have gotten more flattering haircuts. But Emily is disappointed to learn that Oliver is moving to San Francisco for business the next day. Over the course of a few years, Emily and Oliver grow to depend on each other in times of crisis, and develop a solid friendship. While each sporadic encounter contains an undeniable spark, the timing never seems to be right, with several bad relationships, career transitions, and location changes getting in the way. But will the pair realise their feelings for each other and get together before it's too late?
