...to quickly film and release a movie starring the group. In order to cut back on costs for the movie, it was filmed in black-and-white instead of color. The studio didn't really care what the movie was about as long as there were enough new Beatles songs for a soundtrack album. When filming began in March 1964, there was not even a title for the movie. Eventually, Ringo Starr inadvertently came up with the title by using the phrase, "a hard day's ... ...A Hard Day's Night would go on to become a huge success around the world. Of course, the teen girls the movie was aimed at loved it. But so did the critics, and the film opened to glowing reviews. It earned millions of dollars at the box office, and today university film classes study its genius. The soundtrack to this movie was the first Beatles album to feature all John Lennon/Paul McCartney compositions. Because John and Paul had not seen the ...

...taking the stage to film a TV special. In order to get the feel of a day in the life of the Beatles the writer followed them round on their daily ritual of press conferences, gigs and travelling in order to produce a script that sounded natural and many of the boys’ utterances are their own. And there are plenty of excuses for some good laughs and good music thrown in. The whole thing was inspired by the Goon Show and gives great entertainment ... ...so. Not only is it a fantastic film in its own right it also gave us the first music video and the word ‘grotty’. It’s also allegedly the film that inspired the Byrds to make music and led to John Lennon getting his role in ‘How I won the War’. This is a little piece of history. If you love the Beatles then there is no doubt that you’ll love this film, and if you watch this film you can’t help but love the ...

Advantages: Great fun, great music and great story Disadvantages: None
...Beatles made, and it became a template for virtually every music film made ever since. The basic plot follows the boys around as they make music and meyhem between interviews and television appearances. They are accompanied by their long suffering manager and Paul's Irish grandfather, a sly and mischevious man intent on causing trouble. Which he does when he gets his claws into Ringo!
I was pleasantly surprised by the film, it is well written and ... ...looks like they are having a great time. Ringo plays the misunderstood outsider perfectly. Also the satire is still relevant today, such as the ruthless marketing of young people's intrests and fashions. This was not made just as a vehicle for the Beatles, effort was made to write a good script and excellent jokes, and to create something new and exciting. Something that is often missing from modern music films.
There are several great songs in ...

...The band - surely recognizable from their looks, style, and overall musical contributions, - is known worldwide as the Beatles. John, Paul, George, and Ringo go on the adventure of a lifetime in "Help!" following the success of their first film, "A HardDay's Night". Quick wit and humor are abundant in this film which was re-released on DVD November 5, 2007.
In the film, Ringo finds that one of his rings is a sacrificial ring and has a short time to live before he is sacrificed. He and the rest of the band seek answers to the mystery of the ring while being chased around the world by the man who intends to sacrifice him and two scientists looking for power over the government. Songs that are featured in the film include "Help!", "The Night Before", "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away", "I Need You", "Ticket to Ride", and more Beatles...

Advantages: It's a horror film that's genuinely scary. Disadvantages: Portrayal of time passing is not excellent.
...a little when I found out about them - you can understand why they did choose to twist the facts a little in order to make for a more interesting and enjoyable film. It is only loosely based on the Alaskan town of Barrow so it's worth bearing this in mind when viewing the film.
This is the first film of David Slade's that I have seen. It is worth noting however that he is also the director of the film 'Hard Candy', a film that I have never seen but have always wanted to watch. '30 Days Of Night' has encouraged me to go out and buy 'Hard Candy' on DVD, but at current it remains sitting on the shelf still wrapped in its cellophane. Slade is an excellent director and proves so with '30 Days Of Night' I feel. He captures a great energy and intensity in this film, something that few manage to do; he possesses a rare directorial quality and right...

...because it looks and sounds spectacular. You can watch the film in English, French, or Spanish, and there are also subtitles in these languages. There are some bonus features, too, including the original theatrical trailer (which shows clips of two scenes that weren’t included in the movie), footage of the film’s set and premiere, production notes, and newsreels. There are also previews for other Beatles titles, including A HardDay’sNight and Magical Mystery Tour. I watched and enjoyed all the special features, and they are a nice complement to the film. The DVD also comes with a booklet which includes a soundtrack listing, chapter selections, and cast list.
It is obvious that the Beatles were having great fun while making Help!, and that is part of what makes watching it so enjoyable. This film captured them while they were young...

DVD Description
A HARD DAY'S NIGHT presents a fictionalized day in the life of The Beatles as they give a performance on a live television show. Filmed just a month after their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964, this film introduces us to the unique personalities of each member of the Beatles. The film opens with the band boarding a train mobbed with adoring young fans (mostly women) as they attempt to travel to the television studio in London. The antics of the band during rehearsals and makeup application provide a large part of the comic material in this feature, though there are other moments of pure hilarity. The unscripted vignette featuring a hangover-suffering Ringo is especially funny, particularly when he is arrested and risks having to miss the live television broadcast. None of this goes unnoticed by the director of the show, played by Victor Spinetti, a recurring cast member in Beatles movies. As the clock ticks away dramatically, our heroes manage to free Ringo from jail and sneak onto the stage in the nick of time, delighted in the knowledge that they have nearly driven the director mad in the process. Arguably the first music video ever made, this faux documentary and its shooting style have been a tremendous influence on nearly every rock and roll feature since.
