Advantages: Timeless Family Entertainment. Disadvantages: A little dated and the songs aren't brilliant.

A Goofy Movie is certainly not the most visually stunning piece of animation Disney has ever produced. The storyline is certainly not the most exciting or the dialogue the slickest, it also doesn't have some of the finest songs to have ever graced a Disney score. And yet it is one of the studio's films that my family and I love the most.
What it does have though is a lovely family storyline and will probably appeal to a wider audience than some of the more "successful" Disney movies. It still has some fine songs that will keep buzzing round your head for days afterwards. It also has some great professional touches that only Disney can provide.
Although titled "A Goofy Movie" you could argue that the star of the show is really Goofy's son Max. It's the end of the school term and Max is looking forward to the long summer holidays with nothing more to do than laze around and best of all he has managed to secure a date with the girl of his dreams, Roxanne, and escort her to her friend's party. Imagine then his dismay when he discovers that his well-intentioned Dad has organised a "pop 'n' son" fishing trip which will mean that Max is dragged away from his chance to take Roxanne to the party. In an attempt to cover up this failing Max tells Roxanne that he is in fact heading off to Los Angeles to star in a pop music video by none other than the star of the moment, Powerline.
The film then develops into the timeless classic road movie format as Goofy and Max wend and wind their way around the American country side, which Goofy trying his hardest to make that important connection with his son, and Max trying his hardest to make up for not being able to take Roxanne to the party but having now to reach Los Angeles so he can make good his promise to appear with Powerline.
Goofy is still as lovely as ever with his own unique brand of slow innocence, a more well meaning and tender hearted character there has never been. Now in tandem with his son Max they really do make a lovely couple. Max is going through those awkward early teenage years and is doing his level best to impress the lovely Roxanne, what could be more embarrassing than having a dad like Goofy!
The film probably won't age that well, even in the few years that have passed since its release in 1995, the film looks very dated for the fashions and musical styles that the high school kids are so into. No doubt in a few more years it'll be considered well and truly passed it, before taking on a retro-chic before becoming a classic and so the circle will start again.
The songs used in the film are pretty forgettable to be honest and the only one that most will recall is "On the Open Road" which features a quick appearance of both Mickey and Donald. There are a couple of songs used for the Powerline concerts which are classic mid-90's techno but again these could be considered a disadvantage as well as a plus point.
The main advantage though is, as I say, it's just a lovely great family movie and with every new Disney release seeming to up the action and speed stakes, trying harder and harder to be more exciting and more daring than its predecessor, it's great to sit down together and enjoy this charming and more traditional film.
Please note that this is a review of ONLY the film. I do not own the DVD and I have no idea of the extras available. I wouldn't expect to pay much more than a fiver for this film.
Advantages: Greatly entertaining Disadvantages: Perhaps a little too long for very young children.
This is a little gem of a movie featuring good old Goofy (and son!), with Goofy trying to get some quality time with his child, but not in a style his son appreciates! This in turn lead Goofy And Max into some unexpected twist and turns ( as only Goofy is capable of! ). There is even a love interest in this one, so a good storyline as a whole, And has the obligatory but not sickly moral to the tale with nice ending. This still gets an airing from ...

CINDY'S LAST STAND
------------------
A slightly extended version of the final scene in the movie before the credits start to roll. The punchline echoes something that happens at the beginning of the movie.
All the scenes are in a rough format but still widescreen although not anamorphic.
Rounding out things is the trailer and that's all you get if you have a standard DVD player.
Those with access to a DVD-Rom can also read the screenplay with stuff included that didn't make it into the screen. There are also some goofy character profiles, a lame screensaver and a very silly game/guide about the movie.
If you like the movie then this DVD is good to have in your collection. Personally I like to dip into certain scenes from time to time just ...
