...called Wanda” I will give a short synopsis so you know what the film is about, my opinion of the film and then finally get to the all important question that Ciao have proposed needs to be answered, is “A fish called Wanda” the “best British comedy ever?”. Synopsis
***************
A fish called Wanda is a delightful comedy about the aftermath of a jewel heist, planned by George Thomason (Tom Georgeson), and executed by George, Wanda, Otto and Ken. ... ...Curtis) who has somewhat of a way with men. Not only has she been charming Archie, she has been using her skills on Otto (Kevin Kline, an Oscar winning performance), a stereotypical dim witted American idiot and not to mention psychopath who claims to be an intellectual with vast political knowledge. In order to help her in a heist, little does Otto know, she will be trying to rob him too. Before Otto’s visit to England, he thought the London Underground ...

...ciao this week for picking a product of the week which most people will have first hand knowledge of and making a decent competition for a change. I had begun to think the whole thing was pointless when entries from people who had never used the product or had only come into contact with it when it was put up were finishing very highly. To me it seems intrinsically wrong to award those who have written a review based on a scan of a website or a single ... ...whole thing. But me having a moan about the unscrupulous out there is not what we’re here for so let the review commence. A Fish Called Wanda is without doubt one of the funniest and most memorable comedies I have seen, chocked full of unforgettable set pieces, brilliant running jokes and some of the best comedy performances you are likely to see. Set in London, the story revolves around a £20m diamond heist come a cropper, whereby the head of the ...

My Experience with A Fish Called Wanda
--------------------------------------------------------
When my mum first brought this film home from Asda, I looked at her awkwardly and said; "it's really old...and it's about a fish? How can that be funny?" And admittedly I began watching the film several weeks later (as long as I could put it off) with the stubborn belief that I was not going to enjoy it one bit, and that it was probably funny 20 years ... ...is that it actually has a plot and it's good.
The Characters
----------------------
I think in this case it is important to introduce the characters before the plot.
Wanda - Jamie Lee Curtis
*****************************
Wanda is a manipulative woman who knows exactly how to play the men in her life. Initially she is with George, as well as Otto, Ken has a fish called Wanda, and there's a lawyer who can't keep his eyes off her too... Wanda ...

Advantages: British Comedy at its best. John Cleese - Enough said!!! Disadvantages: Special Feature quality is not superb to be honest
...That film was of course, A Fish Called Wanda.
*** The Plot (Without Giving Too Much Away!!!) ***
The film was written by John Cleese and Charles Crichton, who also directed the film, and this was Crichton's first film for almost 25 years. The general outline of the plot is simple enough. Four criminals, led by Wanda Gershwitz (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her boyfriend George Thomason (Tom Georgeson) plot to steal $20 million worth of diamonds. However, ... ...has moved the diamonds to a secret location, leading to a predictably farcical series of events as they search for the missing diamonds. Otto is ably assisted by his stuttering friend Ken Pile (Michael Palin), who also has his own interests in the diamond heist.
In an attempt to uncover the whereabouts of the missing diamonds, Wanda befriends and attempts to seduce George's married barrister Archie Leach (John Cleese), as if George reveals the location ...

Advantages: John Cleese, Entertaining Disadvantages: No special features
...This film is hilarious.
I watched this BEFORE a FishCalledWanda, when it was on TV, and didnt it just make me laugh!
Another stunning performance from the "Wanda" crew, this film will bring you to tears with laughter.
Alot of people compare this film to a FishCalledWanda, but i believe they are 2 films directed to difference audiences, and with Fierce Creatures, this film shouts out to those with a great sense of humour, and with a FishCalledWanda, its aimed at those who like to "think" about humour. No hating a FishCalledWanda, i would choose to watch this film over a FishCalledWanda anyday, and with performances like Michael Palin's in this film, alot of people would agree.
The one thing that spoils this DVD release, is that there are no special features that could entertain the viewer even more, but a £5...
