So A FarewelltoArms. I bought this DVDto further my research for ENglish Literature and paid bout 99p for it.
It's your typical "Ooooh I love you darling"
"Ooooh I love you too darling"
Kind of story that dominated the golden era of Hollywood. It's nice enough in that manner. You're Grannie would enjoy it (that's who I offloaded my copy too after I watched it)
As for the book/film interaction. The book is, as they generally are, better. The book is more anti-war whilst this DVD concentrates more on the romance. The book is also a bit more exciting. The film misses out the interesting parts were the two Ambulance men run away and it makes the Italian doctor out to be the bad guy. I mean he was the best character in the novel. He was so easy going he didn't even care when Frederick stole his girlfriend.Plus he called ...
Advantages: More back story to the original Disadvantages: A tad predictable
, although bear in mind there is a third Candyman film, which will confuse the whole issue entirely!
The film featured some very effective music which built up the tension in the movie, and led to you actually caring about the teacher, and her pupils at the conclusion.
Directed by Bill Condon (the man who directed Ian McKellen in Gods and Monsters in 1998), who does a decent job, considering this was his first real voyage into the world of cinematic horror since his 1987 film Sister, Sister.
It was definately a decent follow-up to Candyman, although not as dark or effective at building your fears of the legend. I would give it 7/10, which for a modern horror sequel isn't a bad effort at all.
The cast was pretty unknown, with only Tony Todd of note as the Candyman.
Other appearances were...
Kelly Rowan (The O.C)
William O ...
Advantages: Candyman's back Disadvantages: Not a patch on the original
Candyman 2 is very similar to the first film, which isn't really a bad thing, but it doesn't really go anywhere. The CandyMan has moved on to New Orleans, which we later discover is his home town, and his target is a direct descendant of his, and his lovers. For which he had his had cut off (he was previously an artist) and smeared with honey, so bees would attack him, and sting him to death. It just so happens that his target also happens to be pregnant (not unlike A Nightmare On Elm Street 5). Anyway in order to defeat the Candyman she needs to find a mirror that belonged to his lover this will cause him to lose his power to come through other peoples mirrors, so the legend will die. Or so is the idea. It isn't really a bad film, it suffers from the original being so good. Watch it if you liked the first, but don't expect too much from ...
