When I was on holiday a couple of weeks ago for some reason I suddenly decided I want to buy The Full Monty on DVD when I got back. I am not sure where this came from, maybe it was from seeing so many near naked bodies by the pool? Anyway....
The Full Monty originally came out in 1997, and was a film I enjoyed watching as a youngster. I recently went into Asda and found this DVD for 4 pounds and so purchased straight away.
The film is based in Sheffield, where there was once a thriving steel industry. Fast forward to the 90's though and that has all changed. The people who were once working in the steel companies are now unemployed spending their days down the job club or trying to find another way to make some money.
The main character of the film is Gary (played by Robert Carlyle), he was once a worker in the steel factory ...
Advantages: Funny, entertaining Disadvantages: Lots of sexual innuedno
in the middle long enough for me to remember them. But the music in Charlie?s Angels is so in your face even I noticed it. Of course that could be because there were a lot of tunes that I knew at well, songs like; M C Hammer ?You can?t Touch This, which is brilliant, because all the Angels stop what they?re doing to dance the same moves as Hammer did, and even though it?s a really awful song you can?t help but tap along. There were snippets from lot of 80?s tune (which is my era), Bon Jovi ? Living on a Prayer, Rebel Rebel ? David Bowie (one of my favourites), Flashdance ?Irene Cara, and from other eras there was Everlasting Love, Firestarter and loads more. One that made me laugh (but confused the kids) was Who are you? by The Who, which played when they dressed up as CSI to investigate a crime scene.
The extras on the DVD include ...
Advantages: Acting, sets and special effects. Disadvantages: Where did the end go???

Full Metal Jacket is Stanley Kubrick?s painful depiction of the lives of new marine trainees as they go through training, graduate and finally end up in Vietnam. A large proportion of the film focuses on the harsh and inhumane training designed to dehumanize people and turn them into, with the help of the demoralising D.I (Lee Ermey), into indestructible killers for the benefit of the United States, men without fear. The D.I?s treatment to the trainee?s is so brutal that some can?t take anymore of the mental hardship. Whilst exploring both the physical and mental suffering of marine trainees the films main focus is on one man, ?Joker? (Matthew Modine).
After graduation most of the new marines end up in Vietnam and then the film takes a more direct view point as it follows Joker as he is released into ...
