This is a great film that can be enjoyed by everybody! It is a film by Disney and Pixar and runs for about 93 minutes. The first disk contains the film itself which tells the story of a colony of ants who every year are forced to collect food for the mean grasshoppers who live nearby on the island.
This one year though, Flik (one of the ants) manages to tip all the food over into the river so when the grasshoppers arrive there is no food and they get really angry!! So they then give the ants a small amount of time to collect twice as much food - an impossible task! Flik decides he has to do something because it was all his fault so he sets off to find some "warrior ants" who are bigger and stronger than the ants and grasshoppers and can fight off the grasshoppers when they return. The rest of the colony agrees because they don't actually think he will ever succeed in finding these warrior ants and he will just get lost and never come back ! And they figure it will be easier to collect the food for the grasshoppers without Flik and his (not so) wonderful ideas and inventions!
However Flik manages to find some "warrior bugs" consisting of a stick insect, ladybird and black widow spider amongst other amusing characters! The colony of ants are ecstatic until they discover that these warrior bugs are actually a group of performers in a flea circus!
I don't want to give the story away too much but just let's say the stage is set for amusing confusion from all sides and the ending is great with everybody loving Flik again!
The movie is one of those that you can walk in at at any moment and still find it funny and enterntaining without even having to know the storyline because there are always funny one-liners and scenes going on. And you see more funny and subtle things each time you watch it which I love!
The second disk is the extras disk and contains the following:
OUTTAKES: By far my favourite bit! When the film was released the producers thought it would be funny for the animated characters to knock things over on set, stuff up their lines, not be able to stop laughing when doing scenes etc. The end result is hilarious and when it was first released at the cinema, these were such a great hit that the producers released another set of outtakes just 3 weeks later. Both sets of outtakes are on this disk.
PRE-PRODUCTION: This contains research intot he film and how the story and editorial came about.
PRODUCTION: This gives behind the scenes footage, how the video was cast, some of the early tests they did and how the film progressed.
SOUND DESIGN: This bit is really good as it tells you how they came about the different sounds effects for different things in the movie and some of the things you wonder how on earth they ever thought of that! It includes the sounds they used for each bug's wings to match their character and things like that.
RELEASE: This includes promotions, trailers and posters that were used to promote the release of the film.
GERI'S GAME: This is an award winning short movie of a guy playing chess but that is all I'm going to say as otherwise I'll give the story away - you will just have to watch it! Trust me this DVD is worth it!
The price of this in the shops is comparable to other DVDs but might be an idea to have a look on the internet too to see if you can get some bargains!!
Enjoy...
