Amazing Airbourne Recreation!
Review of A Bridge Too Far (Special Edition) by nuttynelly

Advantages: Brilliant airbourne footage
Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit long

1977's A Bridge Too Far by director Richard Attenborough features an all-star cast in an epic rendering of a daring but ultimately disastrous raid behind enemy lines in Holland during the Second World War. Operation Market-Garden began in September 1944, and was led by Montgomery, the senior British field commander, in the latter stages of World War II. Operation Market-Garden was actually two operations - Market was the airborne component; Garden ...
...Maximilian Schell is excellent as a German general, and when the Nazi side of the story is told, the actors speak German, with English subtitles, adding to the realism of the film. This realism along with the total running time of 176 minutes makes it more appealing to those who appreciate history on film, than those more content with a hollywood war saga disregarding the true story. ... a tragic battle and excellent movie
Review of A Bridge Too Far (Special Edition) by sim_simian

Advantages: all star cast historical realism
Disadvantages: an epic

The reasons for this are plentiful, mostly because it is very accurate in historical terms and this is due in large part to the amount of research by Richard Attenborough. During filming they consulted with veterans of the actual battle, immensely adding to the credability of the film. Further to this the ...
...is very refreshing to see a war movie that dares to cover a battle such as this where the Allies do not win (and in fact it is probably the greatest mistake of Montgomery's career) and a great resounding victory is not the central theme of the picture. An excellent movie if you like war films in the slightest you will enjoy this and if you like epics you'll be in love. My reccomendation watch this film. The extras included with this dvd are two ...
