Henry (Adam Sandler) goes into a diner and he see a girl he likes (Drew Barrymore). He starts to talk to her and he thinks that he will see her again. Then the next day they meet again only to find that she doesn't remember him. Its hard for Henry to understand and he tries to persist in seeing and talking to her but she just doesn't remember him and seems to think that he just won't take no for an answer. She says different things each time they meet like she is married. On one of the days they meet she also pretends that she can't speak English.
He then finds out that she was in a terrible car accident and that the short term memory part in the brain was damaged and could not be repaired. Her family try to stop him from seeing her as they protect her.
They go to extreme lengths to keep her from getting upset. Each night they put out the same newspaper from the day of the accident, they paint her wall back to white.
In the end they let Henry help as he has fell in love and they end up getting married and have a daughter. Even though she still has no short term memory she has a video tape that she watches every morning when she wakes up to help her remember her wedding day.
