50 First Dates, works on the basis that everybody lives in Hawaii, everybody has jobs they love. All the scenery is beautiful; you can just go and lie on the beach after joyful work, and no matter what nasty things happen to you, they all become recovered in the end. If you watch this with that attitude you should have a right laugh. It’s a happy, fun romantic comedy. With two of my favourite actors in!
The Story Henry Roth is a vetenerian, who enjoys his job, and his good at it. (He can do some neat tricks with walruses!) His college is a little strange but who cares? Henry’s hobby outside of work, is renovating and sailing his old but usage sail boat. While he is sailing one day, his boat crashes into a small island on the coast of Hawaii, while in this island, he meets Lucy a extraordinarily beautiful blonde, who Henry is instantly attracted to her and starts flirting. They make a good repour, their both flirting and there seems to be a good chemistry. They talk for hours, but Lucy has to go, so does Henry. So he fixes his boat and is back off to his home. The next day, he couldn’t help himself; he goes back to the café where he met Lucy. They see each other, but Lucy is off with Henry and she doesn’t seem to have any recognisision of him. The owner of the café, eventually tells explains that Lucy was in a terrible car crash, in which she lost her long term memory, she thinks every day is the July the 12th or something like that. It’s now that the real story takes place; Henry has to win Lucy over every day and its one hell of a ride. It’s hard, but it doesn’t help that her over protective father and brother is keeping him from her.
Eventually Lucy’s family get to like Henry and him and Lucy seem to be making progress, it’s the first time she has ever sung since her mother died and Henry seems to be winning her over more and more often. Everything is breezy ands hunky dory. Until Lucy one day finds out about the accident. Her family have seen her go through it before, but it hits Henry hard. He decides to break with tradition. Everyday he tells her about her medical problem, using the medium of a video camera and some rather dodgy acting.
Spoiler Alert This is one of the only romantic comedies in the whole world that doesn’t have a happy ending! It’s not tragic or nothing, but it’s still not your usual and they all lived happily ever after!
Performances • Adam Sandler is often critically bashed, for not being an excellent actor and their right, he isn’t a great actor, but the roles he chooses to play don’t require him to be good at acting. He is however funny. Whatever you say, he always makes me laugh, and I for 1 am a fan. I like his kind of humour, it’s childish and immature, but hardly ever slap stick (which I can’t stand read my Dodgeball review to see what I mean) His portrayal of Henry Roth, is nothing special, but it is charismatic, funny and confident. Not brilliant, but a good laugh.
• Drew Barrymore’s is my favourite actress at the moment. I think she is excellent. She is no doubt the best thing about 50 First Dates, she is funny, sweet, heart breakingly raw and she simple glows in this role. I don’t care what you say; it’s a wonderful performance that deserved to have more material to work with. When her character Lucy finds out about her accident and amnesia. She is heart breaking, my girlfriend and cousin cried. She pours everything in. She manages to make a stupid, flat character. Into someone that you really like and feel for. One scene when she is one a dock, is especially heart wrenching. I think that this is the best performance in 50 First Dates and maybe her career! Excellent, I LOVE DREW!!! Illuminates the screen!
• I hate Rob Schneider, Did you see Deuce Biglow the Male Gigglo (if no, I don’t recommend it) in this role he is no better than any other one. But he gets all the jokes, and he is certainly zany and stupidly retarded for the role. He is nearly bearable in this role; I do have to admit that he did make me laugh a few times though.
• Sean Astin isn’t require to act in his role as Lucy’s steroid popping, fitness freak of a brother. It’s not a dreadful performance, if you can call it that. He is super hyper (Which is what the role needed) But I have a little nark, it’s almost like he is being so manic because he doesn’t believe that the character is strong enough to just slow down for a couple of minutes.
• Lusia Struts is funny, as the big momma of Lucy’s café place. She is confident ans airy, not much material to work with, but what she does have she makes the best out of it.
Script The script is I’ll grant you pretty awful, but in its defence, it is fun and light and airy. The lines are cringe worthy and the writer causes a criminal offence (not giving the beautiful Drew Barrymore enough material to work with!) Awful script, but manages to pull through a few laughs.
Production Values The production budget for this was 80 million or so, as you would imagine it’s pretty good. The scenery is lush and the actors aren’t c listers are they? Looks fantastic and the camera work are very professional.
Overall A fun flick with enough laughs to keep you entertained, not big on brains, but neither was the Wedding Singer, but it still had charm and was whimsical. And any film with Drew in cant be all bad!
Just quickly, the soundtrack is like reggae covers. It’s a lot of fun and is inkeeping with the mood of the movie!
Advantages: Drew Barrymore, easy to watch. Disadvantages: Characterisation, cheap gags, some stereotypes.
Life is good for Henry Roth. He is a successful vet at a sea life centre in Hawaii, with his charm and winning smile he has the pick of the visiting tourist out for a holiday romance and is looking forward to the day he can set sail on his boat to study his beloved sealife in their natural habitat. With this in mind, he steers a wide berth from any kind of commitment, preferring to tell his conquests wild stories about what he actually does for a ... ...one day, he steps into a local diner (with a strange specialty of spam) and spies a very pretty blonde constructing her waffles into a structure of some sort and strikes up a conversation with her. He and Lucy hit it off right away and both decide that they should meet for breakfast the next morning to continue the conversation they have started.
So, the next morning, he brightly strolls into the diner however when he sits down next to her, she ...

...of a romantic comedy.
50 first dates is collaboration between the delectable Drew Barrymore and the Sweet silly Adam Sandler. Did you watch the wedding singer? They had wonderful chemistry going there and I was hoping to see the same thing in this new offering. You see I myself am rather partial to a bit of Adam Sandler. There is something about his voice and his eyes and the way he says “I love you” that just makes this English lady swoon. My husband ... ...by the information. 50 first dates is funny. Nope scratch that it is hilarious! I will admit some of the humour is a bit childish and silly but hey we all need to be a bit silly now and then don’t we? A lot of the humour is aimed at Ula who is played by Rob Schneider who you will recognise if you’ve seen any of Sandler’s other movies. Ula is the character you will either love or love to hate. He’s a seemingly crazy local fella who has a thing about ...

Advantages: Will make you feel fuzzy inside, very funny and value for money. Disadvantages: None
50 First dates is a feel-good film. It falls into the RomCom genre but this shouldn't put any guys off watching this.
Anyone whose seen The Wedding Singer will already know that the on screen comedy timing/chemistry between lead characters Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler is a must see and it's repeated in this film!
What's it about
*****************
This Peter Segal directed film opens with a montage of suntanned women (and a man) recounting ... ...The recall how they "went cliff diving", "snorkling", "danced in the rain" and many other exciting things they did with their holiday romances. The odd thing is that despite being super-romantic - the relationships ended with excuses like the "guy didn't own a phone", "ran away" or was "gay," leaving them confused. So who were these amazing holiday romance guys…. one guy, Henry Roth (Sandler), that's who?
Henry's life is a series one night stands ...

Advantages: A tale of romance with two likeable character, cute penguin and beautiful locations. Disadvantages: Walrus vomit which seems to go on and on.
~~~PLOT~~~ Henry Roth (ADAM SANDLER) is a veterinarian at Hawaii's Sea Life Park, where he looks after walruses and ribs his gender ambiguous colleague, Alexa (LUSIA STRUS). Henry, is popular with the pretty holidaying tourists and has plenty of brief flings but doesn’t commit because of his 10 year plan to study the underwater life of walruses in Alaska. Then one day, when his boat test for his Walruses project goes wrong, it leads him to Hukilau, ... ...cook Nick (NEPHI POMAIKAI BROWN). There, he is enthralled by pretty Lucy Whitmore (DREW BARRYMORE) who's contently creating pyramids with her breakfast waffles. The two have an instant connection and chat about fish and waffles (Lucy even delights in sniffing his fish smelling hands). The pair make a date to meet the next morning for breakfast. But the next day she doesn't recognize him. Sue tells Henry that Lucy suffered a brain injury about a year ...
Advantages: Fantastic Movies, Great perfomances and soundtrack Disadvantages: Might already have one of these DVD's
...**Whats Is It?**
This 3 DVD boxset is the female teenagers dream (believe me!) Containing the 3 classic teen movies "13 Going On 30" "50FirstDates" and "The Perfect Man"
**What's The Box Set Like?**
All three movies are in a yellow box with pictures of the main characters on the front. It has a shiny hologram at the right hand side. I actually don't have the main box any more as it think they look a lot better by them self. But it's still handy to have. They are stacked close together and look good.
**13 Going On 30**
*The Cover- Has the main character Jenna (Jennifer Garner) blowing a big bubblegum bubble. Very cute and sweet with a pink and white theme throught out the cover. This i suppose is to represent her teenage innocence.
*Who's In It- Jennifer Garner (Catch and Release, Daredevil) Mark Ruffalo (Rumour Has It, Just...
Advantages: 2 of the best films, Adam Sandler, romantic comedy. Disadvantages: The films have to end!
...Adam Sandler is one of my favourite actors and Drew Barrymore is one of my favourite actresses... so two films with them both in is brilliant!
STORYLINE
The Wedding Singer- This storyline has a romantic comedy take... all about how two different type of people get together no matter what.
Set in 1985, Robbie Hart is a wedding singer and Julia is a waitress.. both end up with the wrong people.. this storyline will keep you gripped guessing whether they will end up together or not.
50FirstDates- Another romantic comedy. A brilliant story about love overcoming all obstacles. Lucy (Barrymore) and Harry (Sandler) meet up in a diner and hit it off... when the next day arrives and Harry goes back to the diner to find that Lucy doesn't remember him no more.
Both films are funny and emotional... had me laughing and crying, thinking...
Advantages: Groundhog Day Disadvantages: 50 First Dates
...50FirstDates wasn't as good as I had hoped! I was told that it was good but I didn't think that it was that funny, I like Adam Sandler films but this wasn't as good as Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore etc. I think it was trying to be a cool teen flick and a romance and a comedy mixed badly into one!
Groundhog Day is, on the other hand, HALARIOUS! its very clever, if you havn't seen this film then you NEED to get it! It a good combo of good acting and a good storyline, its simple but done so well. I loved watching the same thing happen everyday as Phil Connors (Bill Murray) trys to figure it all out! an amazing film that you have to see before you die!...
