Without a doubt one of my favourite comedy movies ever and I have to admit there was a point in my life when I first saw this movie at the cinema that that guy would be me in a few decades lol. I really love Steve Carell ever since I saw him in Bruce Almighty and Anchorman, I knew he was going to become a great comedy actor and this movie does him justice.
The 40 year old virgin is about a man named Andy Stitzer. He works in an electrical goods store called Smart tech. Andy in short grew up without the advantage of being sweet with the ladies and through a series of unlucky events never got laid....ever. Now at 40 he seems to have given up hoping that he will ever manage to have sex. However a poker night with the lads and letting too much slip land Andy in a mission, no a quest which his friends will help him on, a quest to get Andy laid. But is it that simple, after so long alone can Andy change himself to commit to a woman? Will he be able to get the
courage up to even ask a girl out? You'll think he's never going to get anywhere, my god Steve Carell's acting is to such a high degree, he makes himself look so awkward and out of place around women. Will he get anywhere? It is definitely worth watching to find out, one of the top comedies you will ever see. Mostly Main Street humour with a little bit of dirty humour thrown in.
The disc itself has some extras and they are as follows, from top to bottom:
Play: Plays the hilarity that is the 40 year old Virgin, a memorable comedy you will want to see again and again.
Scenes: 20 scenes complete with pictures with a run time of 127 minutes on my version which is the XXL Version with 17 minutes of never-seen-before pleasure! To me I believe they should have more scenes as it’s quite a long movie and finding memorable parts especially on a PS2 takes ages!
Bonus: When you select this option you are met by an audio clip from the film one being "Her hands were as big as Andre the giants and she had an Adams apple as big as her balls." You'll get it when you see the movie, and there’s a deleted scene relating to that incident that is hilarity at its finest. Will a prostitute of disputable origins turn down our brave hero Andy?
First up you have Movie Commentary: Just commentary throughout the movie with the director/co-writer Judd Apatow and Actor/Co-producer Seth Rogan.
Next we have You know how I know you're gay?: This is one of the funniest outtakes its basically an extended scene from the film that I don’t wan t to ruin however its pretty self-explanatory from the title, definitely worth watching it'll make you laugh lots. (With optional commentary.)
Next we have Andy's Fantasies: Haha this one is great again it's self explanatory, Andy is simply having fantasies about certain women, the weather chick on the news included. Quite a laugh, worth watching once or twice. (With optional commentary.)
Cal and Paula: Just Call and Paula having a conversation about...you guessed it sex and attractiveness in people etc. Got bored of this, you can get through it once but it’s not the best extra on the disc. (Optional commentary.)
Deleted Scenes: "This is graphic" The words that invite you when you click on deleted scenes, and it isn’t a lie either some of these scenes are quite graphic. Lots and lots of deleted scenes all of these are quite funny but I don’t want to spoil it for people who have not got the DVD but I would say its worth buying the DVD for these deleted scenes, Andy and the police is a nice touch...I say no more.
Subtitles: An option for English subtitles, this is really all there is. There is only one language and it’s English, no option put in for that. And subtitles are just English, very limited there but hey I’m English so it’s fine for me.

Much funnier and entertaining than I was expecting, mostly due to the fact it's more than simply a gross out American Pie styled comedy and actually has a heartfelt and tender journey at it's centre. Andy's whole off-beat relationship with Catherine Keener's Trish is brilliantly observed and acted whilst remaining cringeworthingly hilarious. A little too long in some respects as interest does start to wain near the end, but the "Age of Aquarias" ending is marvellous! Alboy
