DVD Description

Three classic cult comedies bound up in one box.
WILT:
The popular comedy duo Griff Rhys Jones and Mel Smith star in this comedy based on the Tom Sharpe novel. Henry Wilt (Jones) is a lecturer who is under the thumb of his domineering wife. Wilt lands himself in hot water when he makes a fool of himself at a party with an inflatable doll, which he later buries on a building site. Unfortunately, Wilt's wife has also gone missing and the local police--led by Inspector Flint (Smith)--are convinced that it was a real body that Wilt was hiding.
PERSONAL SERVICES:
A seemingly conservative woman and her clientele of kinky connoisseurs become daily tabloid sensations when it's discovered that her suburban brothel caters to some of Great Britain's elite. Members of Parliament, diplomats, judges, bankers, and even men of the cloth are all caught with their pants down in England's scandal of the decade.
LEON TH EPIG FARMER:
Leon (Mark Frankel), a young Jewish Londoner, quits his job at an uncouth real estate firm and begins to work part-time for his mother's catering company. On a delivery to a local sperm bank, he discovers that he is the product of a botched artificial insemination and his father's sperm was confused with that of a northern pig farmer. His family is disconsolate over the news, so Leon decides to go up to Yorkshire to meet his biological dad. The farmer and his wife are thrilled to learn that they have a son; they quickly make an effort to integrate his Jewish culture with their own, learning certain key Yiddish expressions and how to cook kosher food. Even so, Leon does not take easily to farm life. When he mistakenly injects sheep semen into a pig, however, Leon creates a stir by creating what might be the first ever kosher pig. He escapes with the animal to London, where both of his families meet and exchange "cultural dialogue." (Not to be confused with LEON, THE PROFESSIONAL.)

Review of Leon DVD by TheNeil

Advantages: Wonderful
Disadvantages: Hmmm

...Classifying Leon is a difficult task. Some films are obvious (most obviously the works of Sylvia Stallone), some fall into many categories quite easily, but Leon...Leon is a strange one. For far too long I confused Leon with the similarly titled Leon The Pig Farmer, and for that reason give it a wide berth. This may be what led to my difficulty in being able to pigeon hole it. Maybe it's because I have the IQ of a hamster. I don't know. Whatever the reason, Leon stayed firmly off my screen for a long time. Now though I'm a convert. The reason? Young Mathilda lives a wretched life. Her mother has shacked up with a low life drug dealer, her step sister hates her, and the only person in the family that she feels for is her younger brother. When a drug deal turns sour, Mathilda's family wind up dead but a simple trip to the grocery store... Read review

Leon - Masterpiece
Review of Leon DVD by BIGHORSE

Advantages: Great plot and awesome performances
Disadvantages: A little grim at times

...Leon must be one of my favourite movies of all time. Jean Reno is a fantastic Italian hitman (although at times he sounds more than a little French) and this Luc Besson epic is a real cult classic. A young Natalie Portman also turns in a magnificent performance. The story is set as the unfortunate Portman’s father is a holder for the DEA (drug enforcement agency). He is deemed to have cut some of the drugs that he is ‘looking after’ and taken care of by the enigmatic (and convincingly lunatic) Gary Oldman. The young Portman is out at the time of the shooting in which all her next of kin are eliminated and turns to the mysterious door of Leon as she bites back the tears at seeing her family shot brutally. Leon takes her in, and the result makes for a fascinating tale of revenge, and honour among criminals.... Read review

Unusual and original
Review of Leon DVD by NeilHudson

Advantages: Highly original and unsettling
Disadvantages: Not always convincing

..."Leon" is a genuine oddity. Ostensibly a thriller about a hired killer, the film actually concentrates on the odd relationship between Leon and Matilda, the child who lives in the same apartment block. After witnessing her family shot dead by the corrupt police, Matilda asks Leon to train her as a hired killer so she can obtain her revenge. Reluctantly Leon agrees and finds himself caught up in her revenge. "Leon" appears to me to be far more of a black comedy than an action thriller, a far more intelligent and subtle film than one might expect given its subject matter.... Read review
