3:10 TO YUMA: James Mangold (WALK THE LINE) directs this remake of the classic Western film. Christian Bale stars as a sheriff who vows to bring a killer (Academy Award winner Russell Crowe) to justice, but it won't be easy to put the criminal on the train to Yuma.
Advantages: Great characters and final shoot out Disadvantages: Bale's limp seems to come and go a fair bit
...I seen this in the cinema the otehr night and thoroughly enjoyed it. My interest in westerns had never really develpoed further than beyond the Clint Eastwood movies, however this film changed that. Christian Bale plays a poor farmer whose being bullied off his land by bailiffs and the railway company, his sons are ashamed of him and he feels as if he has failed his family. However the oppurtunity to change this around arises when Ben Wade (Russell Crowe); a ruthless criminal is caught and has to be taken to catch a train to prison. Bale offers to go for the large sum of money offered and also to make his sons proud of him. But to catch the 3:10toYuma he must track for many miles being hunted down by Ben Wade's bloodthirsty gang.
A nice big shoot out at the end that was very enteretaining and alot of pathos creeated for Bale...

Advantages: you see for yourself Disadvantages: you see for yourself
...American Western film is a lost genre in this age of Toyota, Honda and Kia. Look, Asian brands are even kicking asses of American auto companies. We see horses and we'd likely think of them as part of a Marlboro commercial. So this movie's a bold move back to the brave, old world. I think my two-hour ride with them fast horses, ruthless cowboys and sneaky Indians in the wilderness of Arizona was all worth it.
Even more so given that 3:10toYuma stars Russell Crowe (Ben Wade) and Christian Bale (Dan Evans). Yes, I am kidding you not. The performances of these two gifted actors should be enough reason for you to watch this. Their tandem is not exactly like Jacky Chan and Chris Tucker in Rush Hour franchise or between John Travolta and Nicolas Cage in Face/Off. Crowe and Bale neither tease each other so that the other could deliver...

The film was released in 1971 and was re-released in 2009 on DVD. The 2009 DVD also includes a documentary titled Dalton Trumbo: Rebel in Hollywood, the music video One by Metallica, cast interviews, the original trailer, a radio told version of the book from 1940 and behind the scenes commentary.
The name Johnny got his Gun was an American propaganda call for rallying young men to subscribe to the military.
