that, however menacing they might be after sunset, when morning rolls around again, the heroes can just dig 'em up and stick a stake in them.30 Days of Nightsidesteps the whole daylight problem by setting its story in Barrow, Alaska, a town which is so far north that during the winter, the sun doesn't rise for a month at a stretch. It's such a perfect setting for vampires that it's almost shocking no-one's thought of it before now.30 Days of Nighthas another trick up its sleeve, too. Its vampires aren't gothic hedonists who enjoy their claret out of jewelled goblets. Nope, these are vicious, nasty, brutal creatures who'd snap your neck as soon as look at you. They look terrifying, all misshapen foreheads and far too many teeth, and the creepy shrieking noise they make only makes it worse; they seem entirely inhuman. Barrow's isolated, blizzard-stricken location makes for a literally chilling atmosphere even before the monsters show up.The plot loses its way towards the end, and the inevitable triumph of the heroes stretches logic to its limits, but the setting is original enough to make up for that.30 Days of Nightisn't a film you'll forget in a hurry. --Catherine Haskins
Advantages: Entertaining - interesting vampires. Disadvantages: A bit heavy-handed on the blood and guts.
...for the long and dark 30 days that lay ahead of him, a series of somewhat random and senseless crimes are committed.
The majority of the townsfolk are preparing to head south in order to escape the darkness and freezing temperatures that descend upon the town every winter, not to mention the fact that the town, during these 30 days, becomes isolated and cut off from the world. However, as people hurry to leave, a stranger appears in town who is ... ...IS plunged into darkness for 30 days, IS cut-off from the world, and the temperature IS way below freezing) is scary-ish, but the presence of so much snow sort of dampens (no pun intended) what could have been, under other circumstance, a really dark and foreboding atmosphere. That feeling of tense foreboding just isn't there, and there are no in-your-face shots in a weak attempt to lift the viewer off his/her seat. There is no feeling of anticipation, ...

Advantages: Very well made film Disadvantages: A little long for what it is
...far as comic adaptations go, 30 Days Of Night is probably one of the more subtle to hit our screens. The comic is more of a cult publication, and the film came onto the screen without a big bang. However, I can't speak for the comic, having never read it, but the film is very well made and kept me entertained for the 2 hours running time it offers.
The Plot
The town of Barrow in Alaska in the northernmost in the States. Each year, it experiences ... ...30 days of night. As the town prepares for the month-long darkness, the day before, a mysterious stranger appears in town, threatening the inhabitants. Sheriff Eben Oleson places the stranger in jail, where he continues to warn of something that will come and take him.
This something, as it turns out, is a gang of bloodthirsty vampires. Given 30 days of complete darkness to roam around in is a dream for vampires, who as legend has it cannot suffer ...

Advantages: It's a horror film that's genuinely scary. Disadvantages: Portrayal of time passing is not excellent.
...a little when I found out about them - you can understand why they did choose to twist the facts a little in order to make for a more interesting and enjoyable film. It is only loosely based on the Alaskan town of Barrow so it's worth bearing this in mind when viewing the film.
This is the first film of David Slade's that I have seen. It is worth noting however that he is also the director of the film 'Hard Candy', a film that I have never seen but have always wanted to watch. '30Days Of Night' has encouraged me to go out and buy 'Hard Candy' on DVD, but at current it remains sitting on the shelf still wrapped in its cellophane. Slade is an excellent director and proves so with '30Days Of Night' I feel. He captures a great energy and intensity in this film, something that few manage to do; he possesses a rare directorial quality and right...

Advantages: Frightening, Exciting Disadvantages: Id rather see 28 days later
...30Days of Night, deemed the scariest vampire movie ever, takes a relatively new spin of the genre.
The film begins in the Arctic, where for 30days each year, it is condemned to darkness. Mysteriously, all the mobile phones in the village have been stolen and burned whilst all other phones are down.
With nowhere to run, the vampire-like creatures close in.
For fans of films such as the 28 series and the Resident Evil Trilogy this is a must see. It lives up to them sort of expectations and in many cases exceeds them. The film in some parts is genuinely frightening and contains a deeper story line that what initially may be thought. This thrilling film will also not dissapoint fans of gore. :P
I would definately recommend this film, more of a rental than to buy as i couldnt see my self watching over and over again....

Advantages: Blood, gore and plenty of jumpy moments Disadvantages: Only good for horror fans
...In the isolated, Alaskan town of Barrow, for 30days each year there will be no daylight. This becomes the perfect place for a group of Vampires set to create devastation. This film is based upon the comic of the same name. The films main stars are Josh Hartnett and Melissa George. They star as a married couple Eban and Stella who are about to go their separate ways. As the film starts Stella is attempting to leave Barrow until the Vampires appear. Hartnett is the local sheriff trying to stop the Vampires from destroying his community.
The film is full of blood and gore, as you would expect from any vampire film. This film has been hailed as the best vampire film for decades.I have to agree.
I am a relative newcomer to the Horror film genre. However, I have to say this film was outstanding. The film keeps you captivated from start...
