I have to admit I did do something wrong when watching this film. I happened to have watched "Meet The Spartans" before I watched this, so I kind of already knew the plot and sort of seriously got bored with this film, as I was expecting the funny bits come leaping out, unfortunately there was no funny bits and it was deadly serious, so at first I couldn't understand it but then I settled down to it however I have to admit I really do prefer the soundtrack over this film!
The Director of the film is Zack Snyder, who is quite a new director and has only directed 3 films, "300" "Dawn Of The Dead" (Which I really do want to watch) & "Watchmen" (Which I'm not too sure about), he is not only a director but he is also a Producer and a writer! I don't know whether he is a good director considering he has only directed this film (That I have watched) but if I ever see "Dawn of the Dead", then I shall make up my conclusion on whether I like him as a director or not while writing the review for it.
All the actors and actresses are slightly famous but they are not
so known, they can be seen in a number of different films, e.g. "P.S. I Love you", but that might be the only time you'll see them for a long while. The main character, played by Gerard Butler, he will be seen playing the voice of "Stoick The Vast" In a film called "How To Train Your Dragon", which is adapted from the books written by Cressida Cowell. I have read nearly all the books except the last 3 (She writes them too quick and you can't catch her up), anyway I cannot wait to see that, and I can so see him playing that character, except he'll be the voice of the character as it'll be in animation.
Over Dilios' narration, the life of young Leonidas is depicted. Cast into the wild to fend for his life per Spartan doctrine, Leonidas survives the harsh winter and returns home to be crowned King.
Years later, messengers arrive at the gates of Sparta demanding its submission to King Xerxes. Outraged and offended by their threats and behaviour, King Leonidas and his guards kick the messengers into a well. Acknowledging the threat of Xerxes's invasion force, he visits the Ephors proposing a strategy to repel the numerically superior enemy by using the terrain of Thermopylae (the Hot Gates), which would funnel the Persians into a narrow pass between the rocks and the sea. The Ephors, wary of Leonidas' plans, consult the Oracle, who in her trance decrees that Sparta must not go to war, lest they interrupt the sacred Carneian festival. As Leonidas departs a messenger from Xerxes appears, rewarding the Ephors a mountain of gold in return for their covert support.
Despite the Oracle's orders, Leonidas decides on a leisurely walk to the Hot Gates, gathering 300 of his best soldiers to act as his personal bodyguards. Along the way, they are joined by a force consisting of Arcadians and various other Greeks before arriving at the Hot Gates of Thermopylae. In sight of the approaching Persian army, they construct a wall to contain the Persians' advance. Leonidas meanwhile encounters Ephialtes, a hunchbacked Spartan who requests a private audience with the King. A severely disfigured child, his parents fled Sparta to spare him certain infanticide. Ephialtes asks to redeem his father's name by joining Leonidas in battle against the Persians and warns him of a secret goat path the Persians could use to outflank and surround them. Leonidas is sympathetic to the eager warrior, but rejects him upon realizing that Ephialtes cannot properly hold a shield, which would compromise the Spartans' phalanx.
So what will happen? You must watch to find out.
I considered this film to be not good, but I presume you lot would love this film due to the seriousness, which is well suited for everyone, I shall plead you not to watch "Meet The Spartans" before hand as it not only spoils the film but makes you dislike this film and if you have already watched "Meet the Spartans" then I must tell you never to pick this film up and watch it as you shall not like it and give it a rubbish rating such as I have.
You can say I didn't enjoy this film as such but I did enjoy aspects that others wouldn't due to my laughs within the film because I was expecting something funny to happen but it didn't and my whole family was looking at me funnily, so take my advice and watch "Meet the Spartans" afterwards. Also read my review on "Meet the Spartans" tomorrow!
The special features are: -ADDITIONAL SCENES of the Traitorous Hunchback and Never-Before-Seen Giant Warriors -FRANK MILLER's Vision Realised on Film 300 SPARTANS - FACT OR FICTION?: The Shocking Life of a Spartan Revealed -WHO WERE THE SPARTANS?: How the Actors Built Their Characters Based on Spartan Customs -WEBISODES: Go on Set with the Cast and Crew -COMMENTARY by Director Zack Snyder - and MORE!
As you know I do not watch the Special features as I haven't got time at the moment and they are usually rubbish, but these special features do sound good!
I hope I have helped you out in choosing this film. I also want you all to comment me telling me whether I should keep the structure I'm using now, or go back to the one I was using before that included everything and anything, it also made my review long, please tell me which is better! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A serious film? Not sure how you've managed to come to that conclusion considering the movie is based on Frank Miller's comic book of the same name and focuses more on style over substance.
