The start of the film is very hectic and it takes a while for the film to settle down and let the character’s personalities build, but once it does the film quickly picks up speed and is an enjoyable tale about a writer’s (Sandra Bullock) struggle to overcome alcohol and drug addiction.

After an embarrassing stint at her sister’s wedding and crashing into a house while drunk, Bullock is sentenced for 28 days at a rehab clinic where she is forced to confront her demons and accept her situation. The film focus on her struggle to accept her addiction and the depths she will succumb because of it. Some of the best scenes are her unwillingness to accept help and the touching moment in which her roommate overdoes. The great thing about 28 Days is that it doesn’t set out to be moralistic. It doesn’t judge any of the characters or get all mushy like other films have the tendency to do. If you like your films action-packed 28 Days isn’t for you, but if you like your drama’s meaningful and powerful, watch on.
