Director: Danny Boyle Producor: Andrew Macdonald. Writer: Alex Garland Stars: Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, Brendan Gleeson and Megan Burns.
Released in late 2002 (2003 in the US) this near 2 hour zombie horror set in Great Britain sees the downfall of the country as a mutating virus spreads throughout…
**BRIEF PLOT**
When animal rights activists break into a medical research facility and release a chimpanzee, little do they realise that they are about to change the world until it is too late.
The Chimps have been deliberately infected with "Rage", (a virus which turns the host into a vicious cannibal with a single desire… to eat human beings), it is not long before the majority of the country is infected by the virus, with only a few pockets of un-infected people trying to survive…
28 days later, (so came the title), a hospital patient called Jim (played by Cillian Murphy) wakes up from a coma to discover the entire population of London are mouth dribbling, mad flesh ripping killing machine.
With Jim having to fight for survival, running scared from the infected gangs, he stumbles upon other survivors, including Selena, (played by Naomie Harris), Mark, (played by Noah Huntley), Frank, (played by Brendan Gleeson) his daughter Hannah, (played by Megan Burns) and a small group of soldiers led by Major Henry West, (played by Christopher Eccleston).
With the remaining survivors being protected by the armed soldiers things seem to be working out, but, unfortunately, within the confines of the soldiers safe house in Manchester the dangers begin to escalate as the remaining survivors and soldiers begin to mistrust each other, leading to a rather gruesome outcome…

**IN CONCLUSION**
To be perfectly honest I thought I would be settling down to a rather trashy 'B' movie when I began to watch this… but how wrong I was…I really got into this one and have to admit that at some points I was sitting on the edge of my seat….
Although it is a rather far fetched story it turns out to be a splendid horror/science fiction tale of a virus infected nation..
The special effects are not to over the top, being just enough to not spoil the way the story is told.. with the infected people looking rabid dogs looking for there first meal in years…and the deserted looking streets of London, such as Oxford street and Westminster Bridge, actual being empty streets of London and not CGI or other trickery…
The acting is good enough to keep the story flowing at a good speed, especially the rather pompous sounding Eccleston as the Major… with his calm mannerism and total control…
The 'gruesome' special effects are also well thought out and not too 'tacky' at all, (unlike in some similar movie such as Dawn of the dead and the like)…
In all a great horror with a great story, in fact, one of the best I've seen in a long while, considering the amount of similar movies on the market.. It is one of those all action horrors with a very fast tempo.
*Would I recommend this…?
Most definitely I would… it is a fast action packed movie with plenty of thrills to keep you awake on a dreary night…
You can get a copy at www.amazon.co.uk for less than a fiver (or even buy this and the sequel '28 weeks later' {which is another good watch}, for an extra quid…)

Totally agree with you on this, when 'grumpy teenager' brought it back I thought it was going to be typical rubbish but I enjoyed every minute of it! Jean XX
