"28 years later" by Danny Boyle

Most definitely, this is a scariest film seen recently. Something meant to become a cult film. A proven Danny Boyle’s geniality…."It will have you on the edge of your seat"…." So real, so possible, so simple...so Boyle this is. Clear and simple, scary and upsetting. Most definitely there are different kind of horrors. The sort of ‘Scream’ horrors and the second kind more warning kind about catastrophes, on things that actually can happen if we are not very careful. With horrors such "28 days later" we are always more careful because it suppose the reality that might happen. However, I think that this is sort of female horror. The kind of movies that women like, because it has the background story that allows a little bit more than just horror, in the company of so simple, so scary, so realistic, so typical Boyle sense of humor. For example, when one of the survivals suggests dropping buckets through the window because *no one complains. Apparently, no one complains because all other are either killed or infected with the rage virus. The movie is directed by Danny Boyle, responsible for "Trainspotting" and "The Beach" [a bit of the failure], or "Life Less Ordinary". Also, fabulous " Shallow Grave" which is a masterpiece. All his previous films are very male, talking about things in life, from, more-less, male point of view. "28 days later" is quite different. It has just enough emotions, horror and also the facts about human behavior in such situations to make decent emotional respond in the audience. But, knowing women-men emotion catchers, we simply can not avoid the fact, that such films are rather to be discussed by women later on, than by men.

A group of 3 people breaking into a research center wanting to free the monkeys who were part of the dangers experiments. They're releasing animals, to end up bitten and attacked by the same. You should see the plastic boxes where the poor sods are kept. The cages developed to torture more than anything else. What they don’t know is that these animals have ‘rage’ virus. It is so shaky, to see animals tied down like that, with monitors in front of them displaying human violence. We do not know what was the aim of the research. Because to find a cure for rage virus is noble, but yet if there is not such a virus, why the research centers making the one. Stop cruelty over animals, is the message here. So strong, so simple, provoking simple emotions of us joining such a group. Like developing a virus and experiment of such. We cannot delete a possible information that also can be false, how AIDS has been designed in labs, before it has been released to a certain countries in order to wipe un-needed population. And while our feelings of horror scales up with the similar society conspiracy theories, we are following the destiny of a young man, who wakes up in the hospital, not being aware what kind of horror has happened to his people.

Jim is in a hospital naked. He soon finds that he is alone, completely alone, until he finds his way into a church to see terrifying hundreds of dead bodies, piled up to the ceiling and an infected priest who’s after him with red eyes, coughing up blood all along. Not long after, Jim finds another 2 ‘real’ human beings’. Together, they are walking through the deserted London, to find other people alive. Soon enough, Jim finds out that there's only 3 kinds left: dead people, human beings and them* [the infected survivals]...no more neighbors, no more children, no more nice people, brothers and sisters.... just them and -the infected. The rage virus, which is passed on through a bite or blood getting into eyes or mouth, man, is becoming a zombie in about 20 seconds attacking any other human on the sight.
It’s up to good director, to test himself on such movies. D. Boyle proved his skill on this film. Because all the details, edgy bitter humor and pictures are just enough to clearly let us know about the potential danger, about human behavior and about ugly picture in this situation. What the survivals can drink or eat in deserted city, but soft drinks and candies from the machines? What the survivals can think while realizing what has happened to the humans, but going to the church in try to reach the God, finding piled up dead bodies of poor sods who had the same idea? How the survivals thinking in panic, than to bribe up the drivers and pilots to get out of the country? What does bunch of male survivals in the army thinking first than about getting some women there too? How does the rats behave in front of the bunch of rave virus infected humans, than to run away, like from the sinking ship? How does un-infected horses behave released from slavery of men, in the nature, somewhere between Manchester and London, than running free through the fields? Danny Boyle here thinking about everything, not wasting his time on cheesy love scenes between Jim and the female survival Selena. Who would really think about sex in such moments? No one, so so true. And than we have Selena saying to Jim: "You must thinking now about how we gonna fall in love and fuck." The scenes of a deserted London are stunning. There's one scene that confused a bit. We see a car travelling along a road in the distance and the foreground is filled with loads of flowers, all different colors. I think that this is a needed contrast remanding us on a lovely nature that humans in UK had. Because when you see such in real life you don’t think about this. You are thinking on something that you don't have. But seeing this in such situation, just as well as horses, you are realizing what the humanity looses and how the nature is really beautiful. This contrast makes the film so emotional. It gets you to the point.

The acting is brilliant the main actors do give a good performance. This is visible in the part when the girl need to kill her companion who has been bitten in fight, fast, saying that the bitten realizes that, once when they get the wound. You can see the changes right by their eyes, in the disappointment of not being ready to die yet. She is the one who gave a brilliant acting performance in the film so quickly! Boyle here touches such a weighty matters as the fundamental difference between man and beast and how much human being are natural killers in the situation given. How those monkeys are the victims of the even greater and more intelligent animals, humans. This is a road movie basically. The movie develops Jim, Selena, Frank, and Hannah into believable individuals. The situation is crafted well; it establishes the believable rules. The "villains" in the film [not the infected one] have credible reasons for acting as they do, ending up infected, remanding us that there is a God after all. This is not a freaky movie, how much is realistic. And I think that this was D. Boyle's primal aim. I think that he achieved the message that he wanted to achieve, as usual. I also think that this film had intelligent script in front. And if Boyle wants to shock us, he has no trouble doing so. This is a quality mate. A quality not for children, but for adults. I believe that this film still can be find [this is 2003 film] on DVDs as well in some college campus movie theatres.

I would have to agree that this film is probably more for females than males, rather lacking in the action department for males, and possibly me too :-S Ive not yet decided. I had this dvd, until my uncle stole it from me *scowls* maybe, if i ever get it back ill write a review too, but i doubt thatll happen, its about as likely as an apocolypse. oh well, we can live in hope eh (not for the apocolypse hahaha) Great review :-) xxx
