27 Dresses is a 2008 romantic comedy, starring Katherine Heigl and James Marsden, and was directed by Anne Fletcher. Jane has always been the bridesmaid and never the bride, she’s obsessed with weddings and has in fact been a bridesmaid 27 times, hence the title of the film. When she’s attending two different weddings on the same night, she bumps into Kevin, a cynic who manages to write the most romantic weddings at the same time. At the same time, she’s hopelessly in love with her boss, then her sister arrives back in town and somehow is engaged to her boss within the month. Jane is shocked, how will she ever win over George now? And how will things go with Kevin? What will her 28th dress be?
The cast is good, but nothing special. Katherine Heigl plays Jane, the main character in the film who’s looking for love but finds it somewhere unexpected. She’s the best actress in the film and I’ll be looking out for her in other films. James Marsden played the other lead, the cynic who turns out to be very romantic and he has really good chemistry with Katherine Heigl, he gives a great performance. Malin Akerman supports the main cast as Jane’s selfish sister, she gives a sort of believable performance, but comes across as a ditzy blonde who always gets what she wants. The final main is Jane’s boss, George, who is played by Edward Burns, he gives a charming performance as the lusted after man, but doesn’t seem to have much chemistry with the other characters.
Although I like easy watching films that aren’t too hard to figure out, as mentioned in my earlier reviews, I thought this film was simply too predictable, I practically figured out the whole plot, it didn’t seem very imaginative.
Its rated as a 12 because of the numerous sex references.
You can buy it for £6 in supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco.
The film featured 27 very awful dresses because of the title and the fact that Jane had been a bridesmaid 27 times, the fashion was done very well.
Overall an average chick flick, worth a watch but there are better things.
