I watched 27 Dresses on a rainy Monday evening. After having been out and about shopping and getting wet and miserable, I returned home, made myself a hot chocolate, got my duvet and looked forward to watching a film full of girly fun, gorgeous men and weepy storylines. How wrong I was. Like the next girl I enjoy a sappy film now and again and the box promised me that Katherine Hiegl was the new Brigett Jones. Instead the film seemed to be a mash up of a load of other Rom Coms released over the past few years. First we have the early scene where Jane is vying to catch the bouquet at a friends wedding, she gets knocked out and the typically cute guy comes and catches her, she does the whole 'fainting dramatically into his arms'- reminiscent of Jennifer Lopez in the Wedding Planner. Then we have Jane being hopelessly in love with her boss, (Brigett Jones, Love Actually and The Holiday) Jane then gets annoyed with her typically more vivacious and blonde sister Tess ( In Her Shoes) who steals her love interest without knowing. The afore mentioned cute guy then gets Katherine to try on all of her 27 dresses, they have a contrived 'heart to heart' he takes pics of her, they end up sleeping together and he writes a story about the 'perenial bridesmaid' so he can get a leg up in his job writing for a newspaper (How to Lose a Guy in Ten days) I could go on for hours but hey... if you wanted to be bored by a mishmash of references to other; dare i say better, girly films you'd watch 27 Dresses. Sorry Katherine!
