Although I missed this on TV I had heard loads about it and after buying one series to see what it was like, i was gripped! After watching season 1 I was worried that the others couldn't follow suit and found that after watching the beginning of season 2, wasn't as impressed as I was with the first - less believable and although Jack stil went into CTU, him no longer working there didn't seen right! That season did pick, however, towards the end and seasons 3 and 4 are definately as good as the 1st :)
The way Jack is played by Sutherland was very impressive and I found myself believing that almost every part of the 'day' was real, even though it would take a miracle for Jack to do all he does without ever needing the toilet (except to secretly contact other agents), eating or drinking! Other agents at CTU also are very impressive with their ability to not have normal bodily needs! After watching the first season almost back to back I was having withdrawal symptons whilst having to wait for season 2 to be sent! I may well
sell all my other seasons and replace it with this box set.
I became very involved in the plots and enjoyed trying to guess what was going to happen - only occassionally getting it right! The twists are genuious, the directing was great and the acting couldn't be faulted. The way that the emotion was mixed in made it so real (end of Season 1) and the responce of the actors is amazing - Sutherland could never be replaced, so well suited to the part!
This has to be the most gripping, action packed and adrenaline pumping 24 hour ride through a TV drama series ever! Most of which i watched whilst trying to eat - the food usually got left though! (good for anyone on a diet!)
Each episode, lasting one hour in real time, focuses on one hour of (Counter Terroist Unit) Agent, Jack Bauers (Kiefer Sutherland) day in which there is a terrorist attack on America.
Each season makes up a whole 24 hours in which there are several unexpected twists keeping you on the edge of your seat for hours!!
So many characters which pop up out of the blue, all linking in somehow yet its impossible to tell which ones can be trusted and which are going to change the plot completely and do their best to screw up Jack's plans to save the world from evil! He is the type of hero that you can't help but love to bits, even if at times he appears annoyingly superhuman, never failing!!
SEASON 1: This series has Jack trying to stall an assasination attempt on a black Presidential candidate, Senator David Palmer, and rescue his wife and daughter from the clutches of the Balkan baddies. The 'assassin' is believed to be working on the inside of the Government and Jack, therefore, can only work alone, trusting no-one. When the family of Jack is abducted, he turns to certain people inside for emotional support when Jack is suspected of murder... This season is full of twists and emotion taking place over the most action packed 24 in the history of life and has to be my favourite overall!!
SEASON 2: This season takes place 18 months after the first, after Senetor David Palmer has been elected. It begins with Jack, crumbling with emotion being told he is needed to return to CTU, he is the only person trusted by the Senetor who, in the middle of spending a day in the country with his family, has been informed of a potential threat to national security which requires him to return back to L.A. The threat consists of a tip-off that a nuclear bomb is going to dentonate the whole of America in the next, action packed, 24 hours.
SEASON 3: Season 3 focuses on Jack Bauer, a government agent working for CTU (counter terrorist unit), this time attempting to prevent a deadly biological attack on the USA. An array of villans take Jack to Mexico and back, as well as leading him all over LA is an attempt to save innocent lives. Again, the details of the story are intricate, keeping you guessing at every twist. The cliffhangers and high-adrenaline moments throughout are mixed with emotional scenes of loss and betrayal. For me, this is one of my favourite seasons, not to be missed by anyone!
SEASON 4: Season 4 is straight into the action, with a massive train explosion just minutes into it, gripping you for the rest of the series. Jack finds himself at CTU again, (where he belongs in my opinion!) but working for the Secretary of Defence. The train explosion gets Jack and the team working on findng the responsibe terrorists, believed to come from Turkey. When the Secretary of Defence and his daughter are kidnapped, Jack becomes a CTU agent once again where the investigations lead him to finding out about another planned nuclear attack! Missing some of the main characters from previous seasons, namely Kim Bauer and her man, this season introduces many new characters which fill the void and mingle in with the old such as David Palmer, who makes his welcome appearance half way through.
Once one season has finished your going to hate yourself for not buying the next ready for viewing straight after! I would definately recommend buying them in a set such as this and the more series in that set - the better :) !!

Not a bad review but I think, if you added more opinion, you could get a higher rating. Try writing what you thought of the actors - which were good, which were bad, why they were good or bad. Did it seem realistic to you? Was the setting appropriate, etc... Let me know if you add to this and I will take another look.
