I recently took a day off my work to watch my new 24 box set in 1 sitting! I got plenty of supplies to keep me going for the day; pizza, cidar, doritos and dip!! I first got into 24 during the first series, however I missed some episodes and it wasn't till the second series that I watched every week. I saw this box set in Tesco for £24!! At just £1 per hour, I thought it was too good to miss... 24 is a creative, revolutionary television program - '24' (representing the number of hours in a day) runs an hour a week, in real time, and advances to a staggering climax every season. As an anti-terrorist specialist, Jack Bauer, (Kiefer Sutherland) races against the clock to save the day; assassination attempts, germ warfare and anti-American enemies are constant obstacles for Sutherland, and his daughter Elisha Cuthbert, president Dennis Haysbert and an innumerable cast of others at CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit).
Regulars come and go, and guest stars make lasting impressions(including Dennis Hopper in this first
season). The cliff-hanger sequences will leave you gasping for air and possibly grasping your chest to calm your heart down. This is action/drama of blockbuster film quality! So many things happen over the course of one day on this show; at any point, a main character can be killed off in an instance, suddenly revealling themselves as a mole or a double agent, or events can take a shocking twist.. as the terrorists always have a plan B, and each season leads on to the next... I won't give away much of the plot of season 1, it revolves around terrorists planning to assassinate a presidential candidate, Jack Bauer's daughter has been kidnapped, and there is a chance some of the agents at CTU are involved in both...
The box set is rated a 15, mainly for violence as there is hardly any swearing as American telly is much tougher against bad language... Jack Bauer only says 'Damn It' which has lead to a favourite 24 drinking game amongst fans! You down a shot every time he says it - and in extreme situations like chase sequences, Jack sometimes says 'Damn it, damn it' as Keifer Sutherland knows about this game and wants to get the fans steamin! Here are some of the best quotes from this season...
Quotes: Jack Bauer: You can look the other way once, and it's no big deal, except it makes it easier for you to compromise the next time, and pretty soon that's all your doing; compromising, because that's the way you think things are done. You know those guys I busted? You think they were the bad guys? Because they weren't, they weren't bad guys, they were just like you and me. Except they compromised...once.
Jack Bauer: You probably don't think I could force this towel down your throat, but trust me I can. All the way. Except that I'd hold onto this little bit at the end. When your stomach starts to digest the towel, I pull it out. Taking your stomach lining with it. Most people probably take about a week to die. It's very painful. Jack Bauer: But I'm the man with the gun. Kevin Caroll: If you kill me, how are you going to find your family? Jack Bauer: Who said anything about killing?
Jack Bauer: I used to be in the military. Used to do field work for the CIA. I've been to some horrible places. I've seen some pretty terrible things. I don't think I've ever been this scared in my whole life. CAST
Keifer Sutherland -Jack Bauer Leslie Hope - Teri Bauer Elisha Cuthbert - Kim Bauer Sarah Clarke - Nina Myers Dennis Haysbert - Senator Palmer Carlos Bernard - Tony Almeida Penny Johnson Jerald - Sherry Palmer Xander Berkeley - George Mason 'Top Notch Thriller' - The Times '* * * * *' - Heat '24 is the most distinctive, addictive new TV series..' - Time Magazine
By the end of watching my box set I was exhausted! I felt like I'd been through the mill with Jack, experiencing the full impact of his day, with all the highs and lows!! One of the best things about 24 is its realism, they decided to ditch the 'happy ending' and go with, some things work out and others don't... leaving the viewer shocked, but excited for the next season! As a Keifer Sutherland fan, I think this is the highlight of his career.. he plays Jack so well. I would recommend this to anyone who likes action/thriller movies. I would also say this is one of the most exciting seasons of the show and they should be watched in the right order to enjoy them best. Jack Bauer once forgot where he put his keys. He then spent the next half-hour torturing himself until he gave up the location of the keys. Jack Bauer played Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun and won.
You can lead a horse to water, Jack Bauer can make him drink..

Fantastic review, and so true! I loved 24 season 1 but I haven't bought the set yet, so I might, even just to watch it again. Not sure how someone rated this review offtopic? =/

There's a major spoiler in this review, which if I hadn't already seen the first series I'd have been quite annoyed as a consumer to have revealed to me on a review site. Try to avoid spoilers where possible - if you need to know which aspect of the review I think you should remove let me know in my guestbook and I'll detail further. Alboy
