2046 is the latest film by Chinese director (writer, author and producer), Kar Wai Wong, who also directed In The Mood for Love.
I found 2046 to be an enjoyable, emotional and beautiful film. The subject matter is relationships, generally unsuccessful ones; people being out of time with each other... The story mainly takes place in the 1960's, but with scenes from the future (from a Sci-fi novel the main character is writing, based on his relationship with his neighbour)
The look and style of the film is beautiful - photography, direction, acting, costume...
The main parts are played by Tony Leung Chiu Wai (Chow) and Zhang Ziyi (Bai), who are excellent.
The soundtrack is also beautiful, in particular the opera track that occurs as a theme on a few occasions.
Not just aesthetically pleasing though - emotionally stimulating too.
Following the story can be a little confusing at times - time does not pass chronologically, but becomes clearer.
I would definitely recommend this film. :)
