Advantages: Looks great Disadvantages: Sometimes difficult to follow and meanders a bit
After having his heart broken by a married woman, journalist and writer Chow moves to Hong Kong where he writes science fiction Novel “2046”. Living in Room 2047 he indulges in a series of commitment-free relationships, especially with the call-girl next door in 2046…
After seeing the trailers for “2046” I was expecting a sci-fi opus from one of Asia’s coolest directors. What I got was an exploration of love set in 1960s’ Hong Kong and Singapore. ... ...enjoying the film. It is the story of a group of people who want what they can’t have and can’t have what they want. The attention focusses on Chow, a writer that got his fingers burnt by a married woman and who attempts to avoid making the same mistake again by indulging in sexually charged flings that leave him emotionally detached. All the people that enter his life also enter his writing, becoming characters in his science fiction novel “2046” ...

Advantages: Magnificent and unusual plot, beautiful movie Disadvantages: begining is shallow (but there is a good reason for it)
2046 is the new film of Chinese director (writer, author producer),Kar Wai Wong . Four years after the film “In the mood for Love” Wai Wong returns refreshed and better in the big screen with a new movie, 2046. Fans of his previous work (I am one of them) waited for something new. At the same time and during the past 5 years Kar Wai Wong’s reputation was been developing and his cinematography skills became well known to the world. I am sure all of ... ...hopes …. Anyone who reaches 2046 never leaves … If you have seen “In the mood for love” you might think that 2046 is some sort of sequel … you will definitely locate reports in Wong’s older films. Nevertheless, the movie stands fine on its own and if you haven’t seen any previous films you will still enjoy it. It is an isolated and independent story. If you have never seen any of Wong’s films before you will still love the movie and Wong’s exceptional ...

Advantages: A certain style Disadvantages: Over thought distracting timeline - total de ju vu for those who saw the prequel
...in a hotel room numbered 2046. 2046 is that room number where Chow in the prequel 'In the Mood for Love' meets his neighbour Li-Zhen.
Lulu is murdered soon afterwards the meeting by her jealous lover, but Chow cannot refrain from moving into the hotel room next door. He embarks on a string of sexual and empathic relationships with several women he becomes acquainted with and inspired by the events around and shaped by him he begins to write the ... ...as Chow himself. 2046 is by no means a succinct film and sways between times and memories and events in the now time to the point of complete distraction. It answers none of any lasting questions you may have from watching ‘In the Mood for Love’ and its very point of existence has to be asked. I would not advise anyone to see this unless you have an overriding passion for the director or actors. ...

Advantages: beauty Disadvantages: little confusing
2046 is the latest film by Chinese director (writer, author and producer), Kar Wai Wong, who also directed In The Mood for Love.
I found 2046 to be an enjoyable, emotional and beautiful film. The subject matter is relationships, generally unsuccessful ones; people being out of time with each other... The story mainly takes place in the 1960's, but with scenes from the future (from a Sci-fi novel the main character is writing, based on his relationship ... ...film is beautiful - photography, direction, acting, costume...
The main parts are played by Tony Leung Chiu Wai (Chow) and Zhang Ziyi (Bai), who are excellent.
The soundtrack is also beautiful, in particular the opera track that occurs as a theme on a few occasions.
Not just aesthetically pleasing though - emotionally stimulating too.
Following the story can be a little confusing at times - time does not pass chronologically, but becomes clearer.
