...Running one minute short of two hours, it is hard now to believe that this western movie was first released almost 45 years ago.
But "The Searchers" has stood the inevitable "Test of Time", as, today, it is just as good, just as moving, just as disturbing and just as enjoyable as when it was first released in the Autumn of 1956. Indeed, this true classic of the western genre often features in the "Top Best Movies Ever Made" as presented by well-respected writers on the subject.
Directed by John Ford, "The Searchers" stars John Wayne in a story based on a novel by Alan le May, telling of an obsessional search for his niece (played by Natalie Wood) abducted by Indians five-years before.
More about this great western later.

Film Buffs Paradise Review ofAround The World In Eighty Days (Special Edition)by

Advantages: Great Film Entertainment packed with stars from a bygone age Disadvantages: It is not a short film!
...1956 was the year that producer ( and then husband of Elizabeth Taylor ) launched Jules Vernes Around The World In Eighty Days into cinemas to great acclaim
The basic story here is a an English Gentlemen Philius Fogg played with his custom charm by David Niven is bet at his club that he cannot travel around the world in 80 days. What follows is fantastic journey across the world by various means of transport avaiable at the turn of the last century.
Niven is supported by Meixcan comedian Cantinflas as his manservant, Shirley MacLaine as an Indian Princess and Robert newton hamming it as usual as a Police Inspector convinced that Fogg as robbed the Bank Of England
Add to that a list of hundreds of cameos including Noel Coward, Frank Sinatra,John Geilgud,Trevor Howard,Marlene Dietrich to name but a few
The film at the time was hugely...

Advantages: A good happy musical, a family film, funny. Disadvantages: maybe slightlty dated, but still fun
....
During the filming of High Society Grace Kelly got engaged to Prince Rainier of Monaco and the ring she wore in the film was actually her own newly acquired engagement ring.
When she showed her ring to the cast she referred to it as 'sweet', from then on she was teased daily about her 'sweet little ring'.
The filming of High Society was completed in March and Grace Kelly left immediately after filming for Monaco where she married Prince Rainier on 19th April 1956. The studios fast tracked the movie to get it into the cinemas to take advantage of the free publicity provided by the wedding.
High Society was Grace Kelly's last movie and the end of her acting career, as she went on to become Princess Grace of Monaco.
