DVD Description
The story of one man's battle against the effects, both socially and psychologically, of alcohol. Frank's problems go back to his childhood when he witnessed his father as a womaniser and drinker making him feel both rejection and a need to imitate him.
Advantages: Great storyline and twist! Disadvantages: Drags on in parts!
...Having seen this dvd several times in the blockbuster I kept dismissing it and did not believe it would be any good.
Until one day we ran out of films to rent and my girlfriend thought that 16 blocks would be a good film to try.
Bruce Willis plays the part of a alcoholic cop who has been around for a while.
The jist of the story surrounds a group of dodgy cops who are trying to cover up corrupt dealings.
Bruce Willis is trying to protect a valuable witness who can uncover the dodgy cops' dealings and the cops are trying to stop him from getting to the court and unveiling this information.
Bruce Willis plays an excellent part as usual!
This film is well worth a watch and I would recommend it to anyone, glad I rented it out in the end!...

Advantages: Oasis, Fantastic Performance. Disadvantages: Few Extra's on DVD.
...Live by the Sea was recorded at the Cliffs Pavilion, Southend-On-Sea on April 17 1995. It shows oasis on top form performing all most all of the tracks of their debut album Definitely Maybe as well as some of the B sides like 'Acquiesce' and a magnificent cover of The Beatles 'I Am The Walrus.' A great performance by the Gallagher brothers and the atmosphere of the live gig is captured brilliantly. This Performance shows just why Oasis are one of the greatest British bands. In my opinion this is Oasis best live performence. This DVD is only flawed by the lack of extra's. However still a must have for any Oasis fan.
The DVD includes 17 live tracks and 2 Videos 'Rock and Roll Star' and 'Cigarettes and Alcohol'.
1. Rock 'N' Roll Star
2. Columbia
3. Digsy's Dinner
4. Some Might Say
5. Live Forever
6. Up In The Sky
7. Acquiesce

Advantages: Some insight into Manchester music scene Disadvantages: Not much insight into alcoholic haze of central character
...of them make no secret of their low opinion of her.
The title "The AlcoholYears" led me to believe it would be a therapy-style documentary, full of interviews with the central subject, and the story from their viewpoint, with perhaps an update on how things have developed in the years since - you know, is she a "recovering alcoholic", is she holding down steady jobs?
It's nothing like that at all.
<< Is it any good? >>
My immediate answer is no. No, no it's not any good.
That was definitely my first reaction. I'll qualify that - you will probably enjoy the movie if -
a) you were around the Manchester music scene and the Hacienda in the early 80s. It'll bring back memories for you, and it probably features people you'll recognise on a personal level.
b) you are interested in Manchester, or in the music
But, then I heard the DVD...
