Advantages: funny, easy to watch, gives you a feel good feeling afterwards Disadvantages: not everyone's cup of tea, might be a little too immature
13 going on 30 seems to be the ultimate chick flick smothered with cheesiness and teen humour. It's a film most men wouldn't be caught dead watching and one that is as obvious and as corny as Brian McFadden in his Westlife days (sorry Brian fans!). But don't let that put you off! For it may be cheesy and a little predictable but it's still not as bad as Legally Blonde 2 and it is actually pretty damn enjoyable! So if you're looking for a nice, easy, ... ...Rink it was not being 13 anymore. The heartaches, the friendship dramas, Jenna just wanted it all to stop. She wanted to be 30, flirting and thriving just like the women in the Poise magazine. But when her wish suddenly comes true will Jenna find it all it's cracked up to be? *** My Opinion on... ***
Here is my opinion on everything from music on the film to the story and the corny ending. Hope you enjoy!
1) The Story
The story, although a little ...

13 Going On 30 is one of the cutest films I have seen in a LONG time - it makes you laugh, it makes you cry and it makes you pretty damn glad you're not 13 anymore!
Christa Allen plays Jenna Rink, a gawky, awkward 13 year-old who is desperate to be one of the 'Six Chicks', the most popular girls in their New Jersey school. She invites them to her birthday party but when they trick her into hiding in a cupboard and then promptly disappear, she has ... ...late?
I understand that 13 Going on 30, or Suddenly 30, as it's called in Australia, won't appeal to everybody but it's the best chick flick I've seen for ages! I've heard a lot of criticism for it but I think those critics just hate girly films in general and won't give the film a chance!
Christa Allen is really good as the young Jenna - you really feel for the gawky, shy 13 year-old. I wanted to cry with her when she was abandoned by her so-called ...

After being ridiculed by the cool kids at her thirteenth birthday party, Jenna Rink makes a wish to be all grown up. She wakes to find she is thirty and has no memory of the past seventeen years. She has a really cool job as a magazine editor, a nice apartment and lots of clothes and the leader of the snotty high school clique now works for her. But can she really be happy knowing that she hasn’t spoken to her best friend Matt for over fifteen years, ... ...hunk?
So the fad for all things eighties continues. Director Gary Winick has taken an eighties film (“Big”), put it in a dress, kept the eighties’ ideal of being able to achieve anything if you want it badly enough (with the nineties’ proviso that you should be nice to people on the way up), slapped a load of soft rock over the proceedings and finished it off with a load of sparkly pink titles. It really shouldn’t work. But somehow it does and it ...

Advantages: Light hearted fun comedy Disadvantages: A bit predictable
...past mistakes.
So 13 going on 30 takes the tried and tested idea of a child suddenly becoming an adult and dealing with the adult world with a child like innocence. This idea has been done so many times before in films such as "Big" and "Vice Versa" and although 13 going on 30 doesn't really add anything new to the concept, it still comes across as an enjoyable light hearted film. The film centers on the character of Jenna, a 30 year old with the ... ...by the innocence of a 13 year old as she deals with issues such as dating and friendship.
In the lead role of Jenna is Jennifer Garner (Catch Me If You Can) and her very good performance is part of the reason why this film is so enjoyable. Through her performance she displays the awkwardness that Jenna feels as she comes to term with all the nasty things she does, such as having an affair with a married man, but also displays a childlike innocence ...

Advantages: Jennifer Garner is Stunning, better Than Anyone has a Right to Expect Disadvantages: Fluffy
13 years of age and desperate to become popular Jenna Rink thinks she has it bad. She doesn't have a perfect complexion, a stunning body or big enough boobs! (unlike all the models in her favourite fashion magazine Poise) her only friend is the geeky Matt who most certainly isn't known for his good looks or style and she is at the bottom of the social ladder. Trying to get more credibility she invites six of the most popular girls in school to her ... ...the sick bag) or this 13 Going On 30 a charming flick starring the sexy, gorgeous, fun, hugely talented and overall nice gal Jennifer Garner. No prizes for guessing I chose the second option and against my better judgement (believe me) I was drawn into this film, drawn into the charming atmosphere, stunning lead performances and light hearted nature, its fluff but it never pretends to be anything. It truly is one of those rare gems that female teenagers ...

After Jenna Rink's 13th birthday party where her friend Lucy plays a cruel prank on her, she promptly makes a wish that she could skip adolescence and be 30. With the help of some wish dust given to her by her unpopular best friend Matty, her wish comes true. She wakes up to find that her 13-year-old self is now inhabiting the body--and life--of a 30-year-old, high-powered, New York magazine editor. Frightened by her new adult life, Jenna (Jennifer Garner) seeks the help of Matty (Mark Ruffalo), but he hasn't spoken to her since high school. Unfortunately, as she uncovers the details of the time she skipped, she learns that perhaps she hasn't made the best decisions. Similar to the 1988 Tom Hanks vehicle BIG, 13 GOING ON 30 benefits from the undeniable appeal of Garner, who amusingly exudes the awkwardness and energy of a teenager. Meanwhile copious '80s pop culture references, an energetic soundtrack, and vibrant colors provide instant, foolproof nostalgia. Director Gary Winick (TADPOLE) has crafted an undeniably fun picture for any age or gender.
