How would you go about describing Aron Ralston? Self-sufficient? Selfish? Brave? Adventurous? Idiotic? An outcast? Macho? All-round American lad? A show-off? Resourceful? Edgy? Free-spirited? An arrogant, egocentric maniac? These all seem to suit the explorer who ended up having to cut off one of his arms after getting it trapped under a heavy rock…with a blunt blade. According to reports, many Americans fainted during this film. I wouldn’t take that as any indication of what 127 Hours is actually like to watch though, despite the fact that it was directed by Danny Boyle (well-known for his scenes of gruesome gore and hard-hitting realism). I mean, remember, the first audiences to watch The Blair Witch Project reportedly needed travel sickness tablets to cope with the shaky camera effects.
