What stands 11:14 apart from similar movies other than its incredibly well thought out plot, is its exceptionally strong high brow cast which includes Barbara Hershey, Hilary Swank, Colin Hanks, Rachael Leigh Cook, Patrick Swayze and Henry Thomas.
11:14 sits on a kind of Twilight Zone style platter, the different stories all which have some pretty disturbing moments could either sit as individual pieces or as here link together to make the pieces of a bigger puzzle. It's unlikely that you'll watch this movie without paying a thought to the Guy Pearce movie Memento, because its styling is very similar, although 11:14 leaves you with absolutely no unanswered questions, or who is at fault for the incidents of 11:14.
The movie has literally been on for 3 seconds before your glued, the titles at the start of the movie are different and highly addictive to view, and as the titles fade and the story begins the arrival of a body on the bonnet of Henry Thomas's car and the state of the body upon closer examination makes you realise that this movie is going to be far different (obviously with minor similarities) to any other movie you have ever seen.
What 11:14 does very well is dances between a variety of themes and emotions, while one of the stories might be quite standard in its boundaries, the next might be horrific. One real consistency between all the genres of the movie is the incredibly subtle black comedy, that while same might laugh themselves silly, others might not see the joke. Scenes that stay in my mind from the movie involve the body on the car, a rather disastrous orgasm scene, and a incredibly quick, subtle and brutal castration that leaves you thinking "I should think so!" What I should add is that you wont see anything too much to offend, the sex scene is nicely done, the state of the body is kind of shown but not maybe on some levels persuading you that you have seen more than you have.
The real craftwork of 11:14 is the weaving of the five stories so they go full circle, and no matter how bleak the subject matter gets you cant help but get a degree of intense satisfaction as the movie enters its final scenes. I absolutely loved the fact that the story dilution allowed you to take different views on each character. Hershey's character initially comes across as that of an aging old spinster, what you find however is that she is married to someone who seems to have far more life in them (well initially at least) and certainly seems younger, and later still that pathetic weakness turns to terrific strength.
Every single element of 11:14 works, despite the feeling you might have over particular cast members initially you realise that if you took one of them away the movie would be dramatically different, and maybe not even work. The subtlety of the humour allows you to view the movie as a different genre than perhaps your partner. But the biggest key is in the running time of the movie, the fast pace of the story is met by the films short running time, making this a movie that you'll enjoy more than once, with so many movies stretching beyond the 2 hour length nowdays 11:14 gives you the opportunity to have a movie that not only will you enjoy, but it might fill a time timeslot in your life where a movie is desired but your time constraints might not allow a full movie in other situations.
Not something that happens too often nowadays I know, but 11:14 wins an all round top mark from me and will probably sit as not only my favourite movie of the year, but as one of my favourites of all time. If only the US public had given greater support to this film its writer/director might still be working in the industry and producing such high calibre pieces.
You can get 11:14 from play.com priced a very reasonable £7.99 the only special feature unfortunately is the movies trailer.
Advantages: A keeper and a genuine bargain at $12.99 (US) on Amazon! Disadvantages: Jumps in perspective are often difficult for viewers, but necessary to this story!
...but can't look away!" manner. 11:14 is curiously repellant and attractive in equal measures, and transforms ordinary lives into an extraordinary string of event in a whirlwind 85 minute run time. After I had a chance to catch my breath, it was easy to see that the likelihood of individual lives intersecting in such a convoluted and outrageous manner are slim at best. Yet, the film managed to draw me in so thoroughly while viewing that I was simply ... ...binds their lives together forever, without once really questioning the "reality" of it all. That alone speaks highly for the film. I particularly enjoyed it's darkly comedic moments that so mirror life, and the underlying message that sooner or later we reap the consequences of our choices and actions. In many of the characters' reactions it was easy to see the grit of reality. For example, in the aftermath of a crisis one character's immediate ...

...film with an unknown director, 11:14 has a number of quality actors, including Oscar winner Hilary Swank and Dirty Dancing's Patrick Swayze among others. This is a very clever film and well worth watching; the jigsaw style presentation brings the story alive, with the extremely satisfying ending tying up all the loose ends. For a crime thriller such as this there is also a large amount of comedy, a lot of it unintentional. This is a film where you ... ...film is this; five seemingly random incidents occuring around the same time (11:14pm) are actually interlinked with one another. A drunk driver hits a man on a road near a bridge; three young men hit a woman with a van; a young man robs a convenience store; a man finds a body in a cemetery; and a young pregnant woman tries to raise money for an abortion. On the surface all these stories appear to be separate from one another, but as the film unfolds ...

I started out not really knowing what to expect with this film, and as it started i quickly became convinced i was going to be dissapointed. I was very very wrong... The film tells the stories of what happens to a seemingly unconnected bunch of odd characters one night as the clock strikes 11:14. As the hilarious stories of the various characters unfold the movie just gets funnier and funnier, and it is revealed how each of the smaller unfortunate ...

Advantages: Not many advantages, it's okay but not great Disadvantages: Poor story, poor effects
were quite a few well known faces in the film, although I did get mixed up and thought I was watching CCH Pounder rather than Marianne Jean-Baptiste. The children weren?t known to me, but I thought they did well and should make decent actors as they get older. The only actor who was a bit of a let down was Bill Murray, who I don?t rate very highly anyway, he tends to be a bit OTT in his acting style.
I wouldn?t recommend this for younger children, I don?t think it would hold their interest, but for 11 to 13/14 year olds it is probably a reasonable film.

that she has homework to do.
The acting in this movie is quite plain, however I thought that the actress playing the step mother really threw herself into it.
The story line was quite bland. Your poor little sad girl falling for the shy, rich popular guy, but being in competition with some Queen Bee.
I did quite enjoy this movie but it does get a little boring after a while but I would recommend this to people aged 11-14 but people of any age may find it amusing.
I bought this movie as a DVD and I didnt actually go to see it at the cinema. The front picture on the packaging is that of Sam with her admirer, quite plain but works okish. ...
At 11:14 PM on one fatal evening, previously unconnected lives connect for the first time, with fatal consequences for some. This is the premise behind director Greg Marcks's inventive drama, 11:14, which draws on an impressive cast that includes Hilary Swank, Patrick Swayze, and Rachael Leigh Cook . Marcks slowly unveils five separate tales as the characters unwittingly careen towards each other. Reminiscent of Paul Haggis's CRASH.
