A senior member of the united states navy, from a failed philadelphia experiment leads a team of navy seal soldiers to rescue the team he sent during the Nineteen Forties. eighteen out of twenty ene soldiers go through a time portal and by mistake a dinasour is sent through the time portal. The dinosaur makes it to los angeles. during the nineteen forties dr reno, sent a team through a time warp, that took them back in time to some seventy million years ago. Archeological evidence and proof of the mission surfaced. The team is briefed regarding the philadelphia project led by Dr Reno's. It is his time warp technology which enables the team to go back in time. once the time travel is complete, the story largely focuses on trying to effectively kill and escape from dinosaurs as they have been entered into the time warp system by accident.
once the team enter the jungle upon discovery of a dinosaur they bump into three amazon tribe people who see the army seal soldiers in trouble and come to their rescue. Some of the soldiers were about to be eaten by this ancient dinosaur. These amazon tribespeople upon entering the screen, have been in the jungle around for just six years.
the film review
well this film is named one hundred million years b.c though based on the fact that this film coincided with another movie called ten thousand years b.c it made me think that this film was done in a slight rush in order to make some quick dollars. Given the low budget for this Movie, also it took the people around two weeks
to make this particular film.
having watched this film a few times it gave me a clear indication of the reasons of relative or if I can say absolute failure of this particular movie. The film made references to a film (project philadelphia) which says to me that this attempts to merge aspects of that film along with themes contained within films such as jurassic park. The main reason, why this film can not be compared to this film is based on the budget and time taken to produce this extinct classic.
firstly, the frequent use of computer dinosaur images filtered rather badly and I felt that based on poor timing of scene clips and lack of overall acting focus led to a rather woeful performance. When the dinosaur did appear in front of my eyes, I noticed the creature moving along with the sounds of groaning. The dinosaur sounds erupt like a volcano, apparently appearing from nowhere, his mouth does not move and at times the dinosaur fast disappears. Blink and you have missed the dinosaur.
i had the impression that many of the performers here could not act. Here combined the poor level of emotions and overall poor acting in acting terms. Some of the voices from the characters were dreadful to say the least. Also one of the team early on in the film is eaten alive and a colleague attempts to shoot the dinosaur which proves to be a waste of time. Lieutenant robert peet thinks nothing of this creature by saying "there's nothing out here". Then all of a sudden the creature appears and eats the lieutenant for his breakfast. This level of silliness continues throughout the film at certain stages. One minute the dinosaur appears from nowhere, and this lack of dinosaur movement that lets this film down. We do not see it moving, it appears one second makes an annoying sound, takes one of the characters out of the film, leaving the story even weaker. Also the character voices and performances were not good performances. How on earth do three of the amazon tribesmen manage to spear over a smaller dinosaur defies belief. Their inclusion to the movie came unexpected to say the least. Unsuprising considering the overall film.
examples of poor directions included the use of blood in seeing the injured soldier was not good. Also if you were absailing and climbing a big mountain would you tell your friend "were up here to search caves"? These were one of the initial words spoken on the film. A viewer can get the impression of a woeful use of artificial blood, and lack of real pain suffered by the injured soldier. Later in the film the use of a united states helicopter is also strange historically speaking as the helicopter was introduced in real life much later than the nineteen forties and not at a time described in the film itself. Why the helicopter lands in a civilian area is poor. I am sure a real life modern day tank would have killed a dinosaur.
the area i found the movie did well was in including a variation of setting scenes that included los angeles, and tropical destinations such as belize and caracol. This provides travelogue viewers with some areas of interest to watch. This is far from an around the world in eighty days film. There are images of caves, rivers, rainforests, and a busy major city. The contrast from jungle setting compared to the city view did not do the film any favours.
the soundtrack included an annoying b type movie sound played at times throughout the movie. It did not frustrate as the action supersedes the background music by far. Though if you consider the overall poor quality of the film, this adds little value to the Movie itself. I feel the soundtrack has been included to provide viewers of some suspense in watching, though it failed to serve its purpose. Specifically relating to the Soundtrack, is the use of a drum and orchestrated violin type sound. The film has a run time of eighty five minutes which is just about right in terms of length. I feel any longer would have made this even worse as it ends tamely.
price and availability
this particular movie is not generally on offer for rental at blockbuster and lovefilm; at this moment in time. It is however on offer to buy. I have seen offerings at dvd.co.uk, play.com, and amazon. Prices are between eleven Pounds and forty nince pence, and fifteen Pounds and ninety nine pence respectively. On amazon marketplace, a cheaper option is priced starting at six Pounds and ninety nine pence. Having seen this film my thoughts become even more clearer below.
conclusion
the advantages of the Film setting and the good variation of film set are positive points; however this is by far counteracted and outweighed by the many disadvantages. All in all this film lacked humour; it fails to recreate an entertaining action b type movie. Simply, I could not recommend this film from my viewing of this. Take it from me having watched this it does not lead to any enthusiasm to offer a positive recommendation based on details given.
the movie has a v rating as it contains scenes of blood gore and violence.
